I back up (Well Time Machine) backs up every thing for me onto an external hard drive.
I need not worry as once the HDD is near full it removes the oldest backup to make room.my Mac

My answer is "Only after I've just learned the hard way the disadvantage of not doing it". Because unfortunately I lost all the files on my laptop when it needs to reformat due to some virus.0

I back up weekly, although I don't use backup software as such. Instead, as I'm on windows, I use synctoy to create a mirror of the drive I am backing up.
I also carry an encrypted USB and I use this daily. I back this up daily.
Better safe than sorry - If I lost my data I would be in a real mess.0 -

Only when my system is acting differently, I will Back-up my system else I will not.
I will be using AVG Anti-virus regularly updated and my system will have a scheduled scanning.
So I backup continuously to the cloud using Carbonite's unlimited online storage (though I'm starting to look at DropBox as well, as it seems easier to use mobile), daily to a separate internal disk and weekly to DVDs. It's all automatic, and the only thing I have to remember to do is change the DVD/RW every week. In fact, that reminds me...Jumbo

Every week, unless I've made a major update. Copies are on pen drives/ external HDD/ g-mail storage.
Had a major scare a few months ago- PSU failed then motherboard CMOS reset, losing the RAID setup. Thought I'd have to reinstall windows when I read that line "Operating System not found..."0 -
I'm reading this thread with interest as I've just used Acronis to make a full back-up of my machine (it created 6 files on my external HDD with a .tif extension). I can't find the paperwork for it (I've filed it in a safe place), so my question now is how do I do the restore?
Do I need to have Acronis installed on the machine prior or is there another method?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -
you need the boot cd, which you can create in the program if you don't have the original!!
