Bolting horse and stable door spring to mind. The whole point of backing up is that you can recover when you've had a problem...:wall:

I never back up my laptops always ask me to and bugg me though
  • I have an Apple Mac Pro and I use Time Machine to backup my System disk hourly, daily, monthly. This is automated and when the disk is full, it just deletes old backups. I also have a two disk Raid array for all my data. On a regular basis I use DiskClone to make a full snapshot copy.

I know, it's belts, braces and another belt for good measure. Nobody wants to be caught with their pants down ;-)
  • i think its a good idea, as said the how-to-section is in a permanent move,so one = its me does not find what one is looking for that easy.ive often thought it would be much better if the how-to would be unmutable.to give an example: i visit another side to click on a link to a how-to on this side,so i can avoid searching for it too long somehow ridiculous.greetings
  • daily - using dropbox... I sync it over 2 laptop computers and to the "cloud" - on the assumption that I will never have all 3 go down at the same time...
Feb 2012 - onwards MF achieved
September 2016 - Back into clearing a mortgage - Was due to be paid off in 32 years in March 2047 -

Predicted mortgage clearing 03/2047 - now looking at 02/2045

Aims: 1) To pay off mortgage within 20 years - 2037
  • Nowhere near as much as I should - I've recently had my mac hard-drive and my external bakc up hard drive die within months of each other... hadn't even had time to buy a new computer to put the back up stuff to!

There's no worse feeling than losing everything
  • I backup all my important files the minute they change, using some automatic sync software called Allway Sync from 1 drive to another. Obviously this only protects against a disk failure and not fire or theft so a small portion of those super important files also sync to the cloud using DropBox and are available at work, home or anywhere else I get an internet connection.

I never bother with a system image as it would be about 500GB, take forever, and I always view a breakdown as a good chance to rebuild and tidy :)
  • Weekly my docs files, etc, plus a full image backup to an external USB drive. Came in handy recently when I had a hard drive failure.
  • .......do a full back up your PC?

The reason I ask is I see so many problems on here that seemingly take forever to resolve, whereas with the big 'if only' of having a back up available, a fix would have been simple.
