I would tell BBC where to go the bunch of morons that they are.

Its not like there is an acceptance box you need to tick to agree to watch anything no does BBC Iplayer. So send the fine back with a letter thats what i would do.

    Like this you mean?

Mind you I don't think I've ever used Iplayer live (i'm usually near a TV when I'm on a computer).

There was a poster on here last year who said he worked for a company who scammed people into parting with cash for not having a tv licence. I wasnt sure at the time whether it was a load of rubbish, wonder if this is a scam, certainly cant get fined for watching youtube normally only courts can fine you

Does the OP also eat children who cross over bridges?

    Either that or very gullable.

If someone has sent you a letter or something claiming that then they aren't the BBC! Despite which the BBC don't directly deal with TV Licenses - TV Licensing do!

Wrong, the BBC pay a third party to do it but are pulling the strings. They just want gullible people to think butter wouldn't melt
    Who we are

'TV Licensing' is a trade mark of the BBC and is used under licence by companies contracted by the BBC to administer the collection of the television licence fees and enforcement of the television licensing system.

The BBC is a public authority in respect of its television licensing functions and retains overall responsibility.

For years a centre I ran got reminders about the lack of a tv licence. The centre did not have a tv or aeriel. Occasionally groups brought their own tv to show training dvds. This was accepted by the licensing authority who wrote to confirm a licence was not required for such purposes. Only required if receiving live tv broadcasts.

I assume that if the OP has a stand alone DVD player and uses a TV to watch them, then he would still need a licence as a TV will have a tuner in to receive live broadcasts.

Yes, but it won't be the BBC actually contacting him. It won't say "we are the BBC, pay us this money" and if it does its someone pretending to be the BBC instead. If he does get a "pay up" letter or warning then it will say TV Licensing or be a court related document with TV Licensing as the claimant.

Plus the fact that this is clearly a scam as the TV license isn't relevant for what the OP is claiming the letter says it is "fining" him for. (Not to mention all the other points made already by others above.)

Actually no. A friend had this happen and all he did was let them in and prove that he had no aerial attached to the TV (and in his case due to it being a multiple occupancy house no aerial socket in the room at all) and they went away and left him alone.

This is the one area where some intimidation is used however - if you buy a device that is related to TV viewing then they do tend to send you a "You don't have a license" letter AFAIK.

And you're at it again implying that I somehow am employed by the TVL, you really are boring.

Oh come on now I just pointed out how much you know and how you always show up to defend the BBC, something Joe Blogs would do.............not.

oddly enough most of the people that they fine who the feel didn't do it deliberately tend to get fines that are very low - often lower than the TVL).

Naive, gullible people who according to figures are mostly OAPs and single parents.

I'm amazed you didn't know the average fine given how much you claim to know about the inner workings of the TVL.

Oh I know yes, its usually less than the BBC TV Licence, the BBC and it's PR people hate me ;)

If you take the time to read the thread you'll see a BBC TV Licence is only required to watch "live" feeds

No they pay Capita hundreds of millions to threaten, intimidate and harass the British public which is why they wont do it directly. The fact reminds the BBC remains overall in charge as I've shown

Once again they pay third parties to do it but they are told to say their BBC TV Licensing by the BBC themselves

You are wrong yet again. The BBC sales goons have strict targets to hit and some people are conned into signing forms which later get falsified by them. One person on TV Licence Resistance was fined even though they told the sales goon she didn't have a TV!.

The situation is though once the signature is on the form the Magistrate will believe the BBC goon so they are fined and forced to get a BBC TV Licence even though she didn't need one. This is one of the reasons they fight tooth and nail to get this information hidden from the public, threads locked, trolled etc

Oh and then there's this guy who had no contact with them so the BBC made up a story to prosecute him!
