Vent: Wayne Rooney

Options
Can't believe all of the sporting headlines is about how Wayne Rooney scored England's winning goal.

Anyone seeing this or listening to BBC Radio 5 as I'm doing at the moment, would think he was the star of the show. In fact I just logged onto the BBC Sport website to see what their headline would be and sure enough "Wayne Rooney is the returning hero as England beat Ukraine 1-0 ..."

It was a simple tap-in with his head, and was about the only good thing he did all evening. He was one of England's worst players!

I thought he played very average, he needs to get his form back and show the same pride playing for his country as Oxlade-chaberlain.

It was certainly the goal that won the game, although he could maybe have done that in the first half when he missed an absolute sitter with his head.

Not exactly accurate to say that it "took us through" as we'd have still gone through without it.

Welbeck , Carroll & Oxlade all looked sharper than Rooney when playing , he looked tired after just 1/2 hour of play !

Being in the correct position to tap them in is part of the game. Nobody else was.

i was bemoaning his inclusion for the entire 1st half--i couldnt believe they dropped carroll after his role in England's 3 goal winning side.--it was a simple goal but i am sure carroll would have scored it plus the other 2 sitters Rooney missed with his head!

True, and hence he deserves some credit for that. Whether it warrants him being portrayed as the star of the show is another matter.

I suppose we should also give him some credit for being in the "correct position" when he missed that absolute sitter too :rotfl:

Rooney didn't look particularly fit, but he was the person who was there when the ball came across.

Both teams missed near certain headers, Ukraine scored but it wasn't awarded, and England should have had a penalty.

Ukraine were the better team, but it never looked like they were going to win. England had total confidence in their defence.

Rooney is one of the few world class players you actually have, he hasnt played a game for about 5 weeks so no suprise he was a wee bit rusty.

But at the end of the day the guy scored the winner, IMO carroll and wellbeck couldnt lace Ronney's boots, and if ever there was a game to ease him back in, it was last nights game where you were playng a pretty average team and you only needed a draw to go through.
