ASDA Wolstanton Near Stoke, get off M6 J16, back on again at J15, or vice versa.
Depending on time of travel not much slower than following the motorway, free flowing dual carriage and most junctions are passed via underpasses."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Would appear to meet your requirements.
Oh my, Thats nowhere near the M6. Closest junction is J5 and you cant get off southbound.
So that means coming off at J6 with the nightmare that may bring.
Depending on time really.
But at a guess even on a clear empty road your going to waste 30 minutes + .
Pick the wrong time and it could be an hour +Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Get off at Junction 10 of the M6, stay left and go left towards walsall. stay on this road and about 200 yards up on the right is a petrol station, you will have to U-turn to get to it. when done you go back to the roundabout and keep left to get back on M6. just before the roundabout when you get back on is a KFC and Starbucks (within Village Hotel) if you are hungry.

Nice little runner. Doesn't it get around 60+mpg on motorways, though? Are you 100% sure you'll need around 50 litres of fuel? My calculations from putting "scotland" (yes I know that's vague!) to reading in google estimate that your calculations assume getting around 40mpg. I would imagine you could potentially do the journey on a single tank if you drive economically? Do you have Sat Nav? If so, you could take a quick detour to a petrol station for a fiver of fuel or so if it looks like you're cutting it fine?0 -
Hehe just one further thought, you could even take a jerry can with you in the boot and top up if you need to LOL ;-)0

I think with a nice lil car like that the best way to save the money will be to drive at a nice steady 60mph or so. Smaller engine cars lose efficiency very quickly if you drive like an Estate Agent on his way to a football match.0

Do what i do. Fill up before you set off. When your tank gets to a quarter full, fill up again. Wherever you are. Doing detours to save pennies seems a bit OTT, especially if you get lost easily like the OP !0

When travelling south on the M6 from Scotland to Reading, the first motorway services after Birmingham, Corley Services charges 141.9p for unleaded but just a few km further on at Junction 2 there is an Asda just off the motorway with unleaded at 128.7p see
also a tesco at j3 by Ricoh arena also, Asda usually a penny or so cheaper but if you are struggling for distance its useful to know.
If going to reading are you picking up m42 or staying m6/m1?
There is a supermarket off a j4 of m42 also which is as close as a service station!0 -
OP, found your thread a month late so you've done your journey! Did you find somewhere good. I've used Carlisle Tesco, Preston Bamber Bridge Sainsburys shown earlier in this thread I believe.
We found the secret to a smooth journey is -
every stop's at least thirty minutes no matter how you try to speed it up, so- one stop for food
one for petrol.
Change drivers each time, with a toilet visit.
If you're driving solo, you've got to keep stopping and need plenty of coffee to don't skimp either of those.
These websites have been very useful for cheap petrol and finding Tesco Asda Sainsbsbury petrol stations

Plus of course you could always use the main supermarkets sore locator services.
Hope that's some help for future journeys and you found somewhere cheap to stop this time!:)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
