M6 where to get petrol?

Seems like a lot of effort just to save a couple of quid?0

Maybe a little to far down the M6 if your heading to Reading but there is an Asda here http://goo.gl/maps/TYHC which is always cheap and its 24 hours.
With regards route you could always get on the A46 from there down to the M40 but that maybe quite a detour compared with just heading straight to the M40 using the M42.0 -
Out of interest, what kind of vehicle only has a 30 litre fuel tank? Big touring motorbike or something?
I'm assuming you'll be getting around 40mpg? Is that typical for a motorbike of that sort?0 -
Must be a motorbike or similar, can't imagine any car having a fuel tank that small. My old 306 hatchback even had a 60 litre tank.0

Toyota Aygo, or C1, or 107.0

Fill up before you leave home and then just do a splash and dash to get you to your destination. The shell station just on the English side of the border (A74) used to be the cheapest (but that was before the road was upgraded) but probably too far north for you.0

Haven't been up that was for over a year but isn't that Northbound only?
Yes it is. While that is one of the cheapest on-motorway stations I know of (presumably becuase it doesn't have to fund the rest of the infrastructire that full service stations do) there are also Tesco and ASDA petrol stations close to the M6 at Carlisle.0 -
Bit further north, Sainsburys just south of Preston leave at junction 29, about three minutes off the Motorway.

It isn't like you're crossing the Gobi desert, petrol stations are plentiful.
Fill up before you set off and when your fuel gauge reads somewhere between a half and a quarter of a tank left stop at the next garage and fill it up.
You will probably pay a bit more but it's not something you'll be doing every day so it's a small price to pay for the convenience of not making a detour to look for a supermarket. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
