I really get where you are coming from OP. 2 of us live in my house and yet it takes no time at all for us to mess the house up - I can only summise that it's down to my ridiculous standards. I've had my mum come round before and I've felt like the house is untidy and she has said 'it's immaculate in here!' Maybe your like me? Everything needs to be in it's place and neat?

Personally I try to do a bit of something everyday. I work long hours so I hear you on that one but if I do 20 minutes a day it stops me losing the plot! In 20 minutes I can load the dishwasher, wipe the sides down, clean the bathroom, bleach the loo and throw the vac round quickly.
Then on a Sunday I polish the wood floors, pull the sofa out, plump the cushions, dust, have a good, thorough vac and weed the garden. Saturday evening is my clothes washing time but my family have a laundry business so I am lucky enough to be able to save a weeks washing and whack it in 2 big washers then dry it in the massive driers. That saves me ironing anything!

I understand the towels thing you mention. We have 20 towels in our house (no joke) and every single one of them is used up by the end of the week. That's more than a towel each a day?? I don't know what we do with them but it's annoying! Honestly you will find your feet hun. It's taken me years to get into a routine that suits me..

    I've been Money Tipped!
don't even try to emulate people with "immaculate" homes - because they'll have a tip of a room somewhere in the house where everything is stuffed in and the door is shut lol ;)!

I agree with this - just because it looks tidy doesn't mean the junk hasn't just been moved around a bit. If someone calls to say they are on their way to us we race around grabbing stuff and shove it upstairs in the spare room... sometimes it might overflow so no-one visiting is ever allowed to use the upstairs loo.
My top tip: get a cleaner!

    Best £40 a fortnight I spend ;)

I'd love to get a cleaner but I worry about people poking through my stuff plus I'd need it to be clean enough in the first place for one to give me a quote!

Five minutes of tidying here and there really helps, as does cleaning as you go ie things chucked in sink, small spills mopped up and packets back into cupboard while you're cooking.

Thanks for the advice, tried to do a few bits n bobs tonight whilst waiting for dinner and it didnt feel like i was missing out on my relaxing time as it was only 15 mins,
The aim will be to do that every night and see how it goes- I think i have alot of things that dont have a 'home' so always clutterty. might buy some more storage for this.

There is no doubt keeping your home tidy would be greatly helped by everything having a home. But perhaps instead of buying loads of new storage, have you considered that you possibly own loads of stuff you don't need or use and you could have a great declutter before you assess what storage you need?
It's terribly easy to hang on to 'stuff'. Stuff that either isn't who we are any more but we don't want to let go, or is a constant reminder of who we unrealistically aspire to be (unused home gym equipment/hobby stuff perhaps) or stuff we were given and feel obliged to keep.
I've been slowly getting load of 'stuff' over the last 2 years and it is a lot easier now to keep our place tidy.
With decluttering though, you also need to stop bringing more stuff in or you'll get nowhere, lol.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

I am a single parent to 3 and work mornings. I put a load of wshing on each night and peg out if forecast is for sun the next morning or put it on an airer. I strip all 4 beds each weekend or two on two days.
I tend to iron at the weekends in one big batch and put away that day.
I am finding that I am doing downstairs one afternoon and upstairs in the next day afternoon, gardens mow lawn front and back as soon as I get a sunny day in afternoon. When I do a room I try to pull the furniture out polish and hoover, wipe windowsills.

The kitchen is done after each meal but I will blitz it once a week and bathrooms I as a rule go around and put bleach down toilets and clean once a week or when I think they really need doing in morning after everyone has been in.

The car I do at weekends or when I have an afternoon free. But tend to get the outside cleaned by a car cleaned once a week...just to save time.

I am sure I could be more systematic and dont do much in the evenings apart from dinner and kitchen..put a load of washing on....bath kids..read stories.

My storage problem is toys..I dont have a spare room and no space in bedrooms ..so keep them behind settee but need to get better storage or tidy.

Wow, this makes me feel really lazy!! i need to get some of your inspiration for it! im ashamed to say i dont think my car has been cleaned this year

A really good tip is to set the timer on your mobile and do 15 mins cleaning/tidying in one room, or set it for 20 mins ironing, you'd be surprised how much you can get done in that time and childishly it makes me faster cos I like to 'beat the clock'
