Need help do any of you hav a cleaning rota/plan when your cleaning

So random question, do any of you have a cleaning rota, way of doing things around the house?I feel like i am constantly cleaning yet i wouldn't say that anything is very tidy, although things like the shower, floors etc are cleaned at the weekend the rest of the things i just do as and when.I always have washing building up and i don,t think my ironing basket has ever been empty. The only thing i do on a certain day is my food shopping is done every monday. We have been moved out 6 months now and i thought i might have got the hang of it by now. Oh and theres also only 2 of us and i still have at least one load of washing in a day.Anyone got advise or can show me what sort of things they do as i seriously think i need a plan its driving me mad!!!!Thanks

Have a look at the Flylady thread on the Old Style board, some good tips for organising the week.

I'm a bit confused, how do you manage to have washing building up when theres only 2 of you and you put on at least one load of washing every day? Is it a full load?

I don't have a cleaning routine, but then I'm not a fan of housework at all, so I do half an hour ish each day of washing dishes, putting a load in the washing machine, wiping round the bathroom/kitchen, hoovering, whatever I see that needs doing on that particular day. The ironing gets left until either a/ I'm bored out of my skull or b/ there are no clean un-ironed clothes left in the house.

Are you maybe confusing clean with tidy? They can go together, but they aren't the same thing ;).

It usually is a full load but to be honest i probably dont put in everyday it just feels like that, my boyfriend has alot of sports etc and we seem to go through far to many towels. I really need to get organised, when i get home from work i can never be bothered doing anything and then it all builds up by the end of the week. Really need to get on top of things, im such a procrastinator which is the main problem.

There are three of us here, I don't wash every day. In fact I probablty do three loads a week - three full loads - as I will let it build up until there is enough to make a full load otherwise it's a waste of electric/water/detergent/time/space on the airer. I will probably do one every couple of days, as use clothes airers,I wouldnt use a tumble dryer, far too uneconomical.

Other household stuff can be a pain to fit in. I do try to whizz one room per day - but working full time this is not easy. I have been good today and come home, got dinner on,and changed the bedding, before OH got home. Changing the bedding always seems like a mammoth task to me.Dont beat yourself up for wanting to rest after work in the evenings

The kitchen is cleaned after meals.

Don't worry about housework, a bit of mess is fine, its normal - esp if you are working fulltime or have small kids. The problem lies if the mess turns into dirt.

The (what I term as) important areas - like your kitchen and loo - can easily be blitzed with bleach - I bleach both these areas every day. It literally takes seconds just before bed to bleach the loo.

PS if we are having parents/inlaws round, we do have a mad blitz where it is all hands on deck haha

    I've been Money Tipped!
No routine for us - we clean when:

    a. someone is coming - family and friends know to call first and why ;)
    b. we've lost something vital and need to find it
    c. I can write my name in the dust

We try to do the washing when the hampers are near full and before they overflow - and definitely make an emergency intervention when we're down to our 2nd from last pair of pants / knicks - we DO have a system for that as we don't want to be caught out.

I don't smoke or have any strange vices so I use the money saved to pay for sending my ironing away.

Plus, it really is true that men don't see dust.
    :hello:

Thanks for the advice, we both work full time and by the time im back from work its almost 6pm. My boyfriend usually makes dinner and then after that i usually put a load of washing in. The clothes Airer/drying rack thing is now a permanent feature of the room i dont think it has been taken down ever haha. Then sometimes i forget to take it out the washing machine that night and by the time i go to take it out it has a strange smell so i have to re wash it. I dont ming it being a bit messy but when i go to friends theres is always immaculate!!
I shall keep trying and hopefully find something that works,

    Catty,

I had this issue and I now 'bite size' it. I have a routine that I follow every day - come hell or high water so my weekends are free to mooch.

Evening before bed - load dishwasher/washing machine clean down kitchen sides and put assorted clutter away. Takes a few seconds but it’s worth it. Make sure the sink is empty and clean to a sparkle. (Makes the kitchen look immaculate)

In the morning we put the dishwasher away and washing on line or airer, Do a quick swipe with a cloth over the bathroom after we have had showers. Make bed. We do all this while having our morning cuppa and getting ready for work. It really is just getting in the swing of things.

Each day a week I add a core chore (or two) – for example - Monday Hoover Tuesday - Bathroom - Wednesday kitchen and bathroom floor - Thursday - bedrooms - Friday - Litter trays.

Once you have that set in stone the areas are already clean and tidy so it only takes a short time to do I then started to add an ‘extra’ – like clean down the patio area or do all the skirting boards or window sills.

Sounds a lot but if you are putting everything away in the evening 'round up' it means all the rooms are generally tidy so you get to grips with a good clean.

As mentioned before 'flylady' – I was in such a pickle until I started to flylady – however I never did it to the letter........ but took from it what I needed to work for me.

I will repeat - as i dont think i stressed it enough, fly lady http://flylady.net/

However ironicaly its now a bit of a off puttingly cluttered site but a would recomend getting an idea of the routines and 'thought process' - click on the new starter icon on the main screen it gives you the low down.
Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...

don't even try to emulate people with "immaculate" homes - because they'll have a tip of a room somewhere in the house where everything is stuffed in and the door is shut lol ;)!
  • A few things stand out:

You keep saying "I" does your OH do his share?

A washing load per day is loads, I would say between 2 of you about 3 per week would be enough.

You say you never get to the end of your ironing, I like to stick the radio on and bang it out in one go on a Sunday!

My main cleaning days are Monday and Friday. Bedding gets changed and washed and chichilla gets cleaned out on Wednesdays.

I dont do any more than throw the vaccuum round on weekends.
