Lol @ balletshoes
I have this room - its called the dressing room (sounds fancy but its just a large cuboard off our bedroom) This is exclusivly my room and it looks like a bomb has gone in it. Clothes (clean) and make up everywhere.
But rather one room than the whole house.
Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0 -
I don't have a particular routine (apart from trying to do a weekly clean before the weekend), and think maybe I should have one, will go look at flylady as well.
I have found that the time needed to make the house look nice can be dramatically reduced by good storage solutions (think IKEA...)0 -

a. someone is coming - family and friends know to call first and why
b. we've lost something vital and need to find it
c. I can write my name in the dust
We try to do the washing when the hampers are near full and before they overflow - and definitely make an emergency intervention when we're down to our 2nd from last pair of pants / knicks - we DO have a system for that as we don't want to be caught out.
I don't smoke or have any strange vices so I use the money saved to pay for sending my ironing away.
Plus, it really is true that men don't see dust.
This is us too!!

What's ironing? Lol! We tend to keep on top of the everyday stuff (washing, loo, dishes etc) and do a bit more deep cleaning at the weekend - bath, kitchen, lawn mowing etc.

oh dear most of you on this thread are making me feel bad:)
I am a, when I can see the dust I may do dusting, and if tumbleweed appears on the floor I will pick it up.
I vac the stairs (the only carpet left in this house) when I can see the footprints in the dust on them.
I am obviously slovenly except when it comes to dishes and clothes washing.
I clearly need help (of the cleaning person type):rotfl:
not that I have any money to pay one, oh well slovenly it is:)63 mortgage payments to go.

My top tip: get a cleaner!
Best £40 a fortnight I spend

Each monday afternoon I sort out upstairs. Clean the windows, dust and polish everywhere, clean the bathroom thoroughly and hoover round. Tuesday afternoons I do the same downstairs.
Every Wednesday afternoon I do the weekly shop. Then I just top up on little things through the week like fresh fruit and veg, milk and bread. Meal planning saves me loads of time and I bulk cook on a sunday, freeing up time during the week.
My one main luxury is I have a gardener come and mow the front and back lawns once a fortnight and sort out the edges and flower beds. This costs me £20 per month and saves me tons of time and energy.
Dirty washing goes in the laundry baskets out of sight. I have a lot of clothes so dont need a quick turnaround so I tend to do three washes a week, whites, darks and colors.
I am quite a minimalist person as I cant bare clutter. I also have really good storage in every room so things can be put away. If a room looks tidy I think it can look cleaner than it is.
One thing I would not be without is my dishwasher. So lovely to have dinner, then load it up and sit down with a glass of wine and relax
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0 -
I used to have exactly the same issue. In the end I decided to tackle one room at a time - thats 1 room each week until that room is as close to perfect. Then ensure the clean room is maintained. Then when all the rooms are Ok just make sure you maintain it by doing a little every day. Just 10 mins before or after work. I dont have a rota just do the task each day that is most pressing. I find doing stuff as you go along is much better. 10 mins here and there is not noticible and stops the house getting too bad and then you dont ahve to sacrifice half the weekend to cleaning. Failing that you could get a cleaner if you really dislike cleaning and have the money to spend. However I know so many people that clean before the cleaner comes !!0

I know you mention ironing as a problem. What do you iron? I remember my mum telling me about when we moved house when I was 4. She took with her a huge bag of ironing. Over the next 6 months (in a bigger house), she never got to the bottom of that bag.
Suddenly the light dawned. She didn't need to iron towels/teatowels/nighties/childrens' vests/socks/bedsheets etc etc.
Iron only those things that other people see. I now iron very little. DS's school shirts are M&S easy care, they come out of the washer (tumble dryer in winter), go on hangers on the line and look absolutely fine, same with DH's ordinary office shirts. His smart "going to meetings" or "going out shirts are ironed, as are my good blouses.
I certainly wouldn't iron jeans (smooth them with your hands on the kitchen worksurface before putting on the line/as soon as they come out of the dryer) or sports clothes, and never understand why anyone would iron underwear. Personally I never bother with bedding either, but I know some people can't bear un-ironed pillowcases, it's just a matter of deciding which you hate most, ironing or a crumpled pillow ?
If your boyfriend makes lots of washing/dirty towels, make sure he does his share of dealing with it!!I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.
