I just got an updated credit report from Equifax and Aqua, despite them closing my account in February, is still showing up. Anyone else notice this?
Did you contact them to ask for your account to be closed? If not, they wouldn't have closed it automatically like they said they would, and the account would still be open.

I noticed mine was still open (don't know if I could have still used it). I contacted them and have recently had a letter confirming closed.

I had the same. Just called them to close it.

Apparently they mark the account as "dormant" 1 month after the last credit - but don't remove the "available to spend" so it still gets reported to CRA's. If I hadn't of called it'd of stayed their permanently - and yet they closed the account, not me!

Ridiculous. Don't even know why I'm surprised.

I have an Aqua Card that recently stopped the cashback. All i'm left with with a card with 35% APR Lmao!

Make sure you actually call to cancel! All they do when they "cancel" your account themselves is basically call it dormant.

If you check your CRA it will still show up as an open account and you can still spend on it too!

    Yes.

I found that out when I checked my credit report.

Contacted them. Moaned about it not being closed per their letter. Got it closed.

    Job done.

This is why I check my Credit Report annually.
  • I decided to keep my Aqua card as they do have 0% charges on Non sterling transactions. But ever since the rate dropped from 3% to 0.5% on the cashback I have never received any more cashback! The last amount was shown on the January statement and even that is less than it should have been by about £5. Since them I have only used the card a few times on non sterling purchases- so the amount of cashback owed would have been quite small anyway. The cost of phoning them would outway any cashback owed. I did e-mail them via their site but only got a "we will look into it" reply via a letter and nothing else! The only thing that does concern me is whether the amount I am owed from that January statement about £40 will actually be credited to my account on its aniversary next month.

Sent a complaint letter in a few weeks ago, got a "were looking into it" letter but heard nothing since?

I know I've got to wait 8 weeks before I can refer it but has anyone else heard anything in the meantime?

    Still heard nothing.

Once it gets past 8 weeks (now past 4) should I chase Aqua one last time or take it straight to the Ombudsman?
I finally got a reply, they offered me £25.

I'm just drafting a reply telling them to poke it. Because it's taken them so long to reply (6 weeks!) I may well escalate to the ombudsman before they've got round to replying.

Escalated to the Ombudsman, and they agreed the time taken and amount of time taken chasing was unreasonable and Aqua have now paid me £100 compensation.

Just received an annual statement from Aqua in the post, and was susrprised to discover I can still log in to the Aqua web site, and apparently the account is still active with the same credit limit. Will be dealing forthwith.

Whilst your account may show as having the same credit limit, what does it say about 'available to spend'?

That should say £0.00, but if it doesn't then definitely contact them.

I complained to the ombudsman as well. They ruled that they should pay me £25 additional compensation, in addition to the £25 they've already offered me (which they told the ombudsman they've paid me even though they haven't!).

Why did Aqua pay you £100 when the FOS only awarded you £25 in compensation???
(or possibly £50 total if you could show that Aqua did not pay the initial £25 they told the ombudsman they had paid you)

Anyway, well done on getting anything from Aqua. Still waiting for my payout. The ombudsman left it to Aqua to contact me and arrange payment ... but gave them 4 weeks to do so. Well it's nearly 3 weeks so far, and not a word (except the usual monthly statement showing my account is still in credit).
