for the ladies - pregnant and sucking belly in

I'm 21 weeks and as a hardcore fatty to start with it's only in the last two weeks that I can see a difference myself. I didn't gain an ounce between my booking appt and 19 weeks, then I put on 6lbs in a week and my trousers all got tight! My OH has noticed that when I lie on my back my belly doesn't disappear like it used to ...
I am used to sucking it in anyway but someone commented that I looked 'neat' for 20wks today ... I guess that translates as 'you're so fat I wouldn't notice you were pregnant until 39 wks'!
Now if only this bump would get big enough to smooth my saggy lower belly I'd be happy - I'm delighted to be reunited with my belly-button at this stage, it's like a long-lost friend!0 -
Oh, I'm so glad it's not just me - I'm 32 weeks pregnant and still find myself trying to hold it in - it doesn't make a blind bit of difference but I can't help it lol!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

I guess it does take some getting used to, and I probably did try and hold it in at the beginning with my first pregnancy. This time round, not holding it in comes naturally
I'm 16 weeks at the moment and my tummy looks huge, but not a proper bump. I deliberately walk around pushing it out as much as possible, hoping people will realise there is a reason for my fatness :rotfl:0 -
Snaggles - me too! I'm almost 32 weeks, and keep finding myself trying to hold my belly in. As you say, it doesn't work!
Honestly, I thought it was just me being somewhat odd, so this thread is quite reassuring! :rotfl:0 -
Hi. Wife of John 3:16 here. As a midwife I hear that sort of comment a lot! At 15 wks it does look like you are just a bit fat but so what?- you are pregnant and that is so exciting!! By 20 wks you will look pregnant and not fat. Please enjoy being pregnant through every stage and don't compare your bump to anyone else who is pregnant or you will start worrying about being too big/too small. You are you and your pregnancy is unique. If everyone was the same you would be buying baby off the supermarket shelf and then I would be out of a job!!The measure of love is love without measure0

I totally agree with that! even my own two pregancy bumps were different! with my 1st (dd) I had a tiny bump kinda stuck on the front, you couldnt tell I was pregers from the back at all but 2nd time round (ds) I was huge - I went shoping for Mat stuff when I was about 3 months gone but one of the shops wasnt getting their range in for another 2 months ' I guess that will be too late' quips the sales !!!. Great! so I look 7 months gone at 3! bit ego boost! Luck he was prem I might have burst!I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0 -
I'm so glad I'm not the only one panicing about fatness!! I've always been a larger girl and lost 9 lbs between dating scan and 16week check up!! I was so excited but then the hospital lost my blood test so had to go back and i'd put 5lbs back on in just under 2 weeks!! I'm starting to get a baby bump now and it surprised me how hard it is! (first time mum so please humour me!).
Also a warning is putting a top on you haven't worn for a while and realising that it now a bit tighter and shows bump making an appearance. I did this yesterday at work but didn't realise until I was at work how fat I looked!!! Still fitting in normal clothes but not looking forward to maternity clothes shopping and need to get bigger bras already! But I'm well endowed as it is so got to find shops that sell "bolder holders" (as my mum puts it!). Already ruled out matalan (I'm already in their biggest size!), primark & new look (not even close!).
fingers crossed!:heart2: Charlie born Aug 2007 :heart2: Reece born May 2009

i have bought some maternity jeans today as i am so uncomfortable in my noraml trousers, jeans combats whatever i wear i end up with them undone (got out of the car today forgot they wer undone, got a few funny looks pulling my zip up and buttoning my jeans LOL
i juts got some from next they were £20 they are sooo comfy. i have a normally flat tum, so to me my "bump" looks like a proper preggy tum, but to others i look like ive been gorging on the easter eggs LOL (okay okay so ive eaten two !)
im glad i started this thread its good to hear that im not alone!!0 -
Everytime you feel yourself sucking your belly in, do your pelvic floor exercises instead!0

I'm 37 weeks pregnant and caught myself looking in the mirror today and breathing in LOL:rotfl:
Like it would make the slightest bit of difference at this stage - clearly marbles are well and truly gone!!!
I'd recommend getting some decent maternity wear - in the right size....it makes you feel so much better. I've managed with one dress, one pair of jeans and one maternity skirt with loads of different tops to mix and match - New Look has a fantastic and affordable range, and on-line Isabella Oliver is expensive but worth it....
I'm doing hypno-birthing classes at the moment and have to keep repeating affirmations - one of them is "my pregnant body is beautiful" and "My body is nurturing my baby" - bit americanised, but does help to keep realising that what we do as pregnant women is natures true miracle (Gosh I sound like a hippy - honest am just a normal working mum )0
