Tesco Price Inequality - Over 3 times dearer in Liverpool Extra ??

The store will stock products in relation to what the customer demands. Supply and demand. If a product isn't selling well, it will be removed and a different product will be put in its place.
A store simply cannot offer every single item, and as new items are coming out all the time, they need to evaluate what items will sell the best. Personally I would buy the 57p one over the value lemonade as I think it is vile. Many people would rather go with the shop branded items, one above the value, so many that's why.
You can't get angry at the fact a store has removed a certain line of lemonade just because you can't buy it there anymore. You say there is a store a mile away which stocks it, a mile is hardly anything! I don't see an issue here other than you kicking up a fuss because YOU can't get what YOU want?!0 -
I think Tesco has a Policy of Variable Pricing to take account of local conditions and demands for various items. My local Tesco tries to flog Tesco own brands all the time rather than one's preferred brand.
Tesco will deliberately refuse to stock something you like if it comes in the way of their profits. That is my experience and I spent too many years spending far too much at my local Tesco.
I have also found out that Tesco admit they have 'given too little to the customer' and by implication weighted prices etc in their favour.
I will find the link.

It's my understanding that Tesco have completely different pricing-structures and stocks in their normal Tesco stores, Tesco Extra and Tesco Metro. From memory the Metros are the most expensive with the least choice of products. It's possibly related to the cost of rents and business rates, plus the old "what's the most we can get away with charging for this rubbish?" question.0

If you have a Lidl near you, their lemonade is 18p a bottle and absolutley lovely.0

The store I work in is fairly small - there are two larger stores within 5 miles of it - one of them about 3.5 times larger and other 6 times larger. When we discontinue a line - customers moan about it and we state on the stock availability program 'Its available at A & B' Some customers don't understand the concept that we are a small store. Our walls aren't made from elastic. If there is a particular product that you want in the store, go to customer services or phone the careline and do a product request. I have suggested 3 lines myself and they are now in store.MrsShawToBe wrote: »Personally I would buy the 57p one over the value lemonade as I think it is vile. OP you are pathetic. Get a bloody life! Other supermarket chains do their value range. Moan to bloody Tesco - not us! There is more to life than cheapo lemonade. If your whole life is completely torn apart because a certain large store doesn't stock this product, then that is your problem. You got to accept situations and adapt.0 -

So you're telling me it sells really well in all the other Tesco stores in Liverpool and, oddly enough, not the biggest Tesco Extra store in Liverpool?MrsShawToBe wrote: »You can't get angry at the fact a store has removed a certain line of lemonade just because you can't buy it there anymore. You've missed the point, I have a car, I can and do go to other stores and different supermarkets. Many people who shop there do not have a car, and hence shop their for two reasons, convenience and value.
And are you also saying a mile is hardly anything if you're walking, and have to carry bags of 2L bottles of lemonade, along with your other shopping? Or would you suggest the bus, you know, to get some cheaper lemonade as you wouldn't expect the biggest Tesco store in Liverpool to stock it?The store I work in is fairly small - there are two larger stores within 5 miles of it - one of them about 3.5 times larger and other 6 times larger. Please run that concept by me again, but remembering we are talking about the largest Tesco Extra store in Liverpool.OP you are pathetic. Get a bloody life! To say my life's been torn apart is somewhat of an exaggeration don't you think?
You say "Moan to Tesco - not us!"
All I've done is highlight the matter (on a specific supermarket related forum on a Moneysaving website) as blatant Tesco profiteering at the expense of local customers (who want lemonade), forcing them to buy the one that's over three times the price.
Have you thought of nipping onto the Bank Charges Forum and asking posters there to complain to the banks instead of barking on here? No? Thought not.
Why not have a read of Martin's specific page about 'Downshifting' where he states .....
"Try dropping one brand on everything. Then see if you can tell the difference. If not, stick with the cheaper one."
That is, of course, unless you shop at the Park Road Extra store.
He also has a Youtube Video re Saving Money by Buying Lower Brands.
I do hope your store stocks the 17p lemonade, and that you think of me and give a little smileThe store I work in is fairly small
as you walk past it.

Lemonade as sold in Britain is a complete misnomer as no lemons have been anywhere near it. You're paying for a concoction of sweeteners and chemicals and the only difference between them all is the blend. In that sense the value is no different from a more expensive own brand or branded lemonade.
My local Tesco Express stocks mainly own Tesco own brand stuff but is more expensive than the bigger Tesco Extra a couple miles away.
I complained to local Trading Standards who told me that supermarkets are entitled to charge what they want for the same product in different branches.
I doubt that Tesco is going to replace the 57p lemonade they are forcing shoppers to buy with the 17p one you prefer, as that may eat into their profits depending on how many thousands of bottles of it they shift a week.0 -

I don't know, I don't work there, but the thing is, we can't always have what we want. They have removed the lemonade. Get over it.0 -

My store does sell the 17p lemonade.0 -

You're still (maybe choosing to) miss the point somewhat. I can get what I want, elsewhere, it's just inconvenient and needless profiteering from Tesco.
I note you didn't explain how the non car owning customer's supposed to get to the smaller Tesco a mile away to "complete" their shop, then carry the heavy bags of lemonade home.0
