  • I do exactly what pink does and it works every time!
  • just randomly found this thread and love the ideas.. i love potatoes, particularly jacket potatoes but don't have microwave and they take so long so it would be great to have some ready made in the freezer!!

Just out of interest... what did the OP mean when she said the sack she got off her neighbour were 95% unused... how were the other 5% used????

I think they meant that there was still 95% left in the sack... the neighbour had only used 5% of the full bag.

    P.S. lol
    TOP MONEYSAVING TIP

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!
  • Not sure what came over me, but while I was cooking dinner I put an entire bag of unpeeled potatoes into the freezer and didn't notice it until a couple of days later.

Can I do anything with them?

    Hi wornoutmumoftwo,

I did exactly the same thing by accident when I was putting the shopping away a couple of years ago....

When I defrosted them the potatoes were discoloured and leaking a yukky black liquid. I had to bin them.

Kind of off topic I know but I was told by a 'healthly person' ;) that fruit and vegetables are the only thing you can't get food poisoning from.

That's not true. Although the fruit and veg themselves may be OK, if they are sprayed with animal manure which has not been properly treated, or if they are washed in contaminated water or handled with unwashed hands, they are carriers of food poisoning organisms. If you prepared it yourself and know it has been washed thoroughly it should be OK. It's usually organic food which gets the manure treatment. Brussels sprouts have been known to cause ecoli. I live in an area where a lot of fruit is grown and I have heard that you should always wash strawberries and other berry fruits. I won't go into the details but I had a friend whose garden was adjacent to a fruit farm..._pale_

  • Hi everyone.

Ive just thrown away some potatoes and carrots as i wasnt sure how to freeze them and i cant find the thread sorry.
Can someone please tell me what they do

ie Do i skin them chop them up and boil them a bit or just skin chop up and put in the freezer

    many thanks:T :T :T
  • Hi

Potatoes - Part boil them, drain of the water and lightly coat in flour and allow to go cold. Lay on a baking tray (not touching) and put in the freezer for 4 hours or so and when frozen bag them up.
When you go to cook potatoes put them in a baking dish of hot oil straight from the freezer to oven. They make an easy roast potato as they only take 30 minutes to cook and it stops me throwing away potato and letting them go off if i buy too many - Idea origannaly came from Decembers good food magazine

    Hope this helps!
