  • Hello all!

Got another contract quite local to me so things are looking up on the £ front! Hurrah! It might only be for 2 or 3 months but 8 weeks of good pay is better than a kick in the chops :) Will still be working on my from home work in the eves/wkends too!

Am all paid up on bills and minimum payments until April so these next few weeks will be a huge boost!

For the next few months I should be able to manage 5% per month which is really promising PLUS any extras I pull in from tasks here and there. Got some charges back from an old CC so that's good too.

I've got some serious work ahead of me if I want to be DF by my birthday (July)

Time to revisit the ideas list me thinks!

Hope you're all well! I think I'll be kicking off the new thread in time for 1st of March. Hope you'll all join me there.
  • Will join you in March if that's okay?
5% is a huge amount, that's awesome! Do you mind if I ask how you got your cc charges back? I have recently contacted MBNA regarding an old cc account and ppi, I couldn't remember if I had been paying ppi or not but they got back to me and stated there wasn't ppi on the account. But there are definitely charges, I opened the account 2001 and finished paying off 2008 , is it worth me trying to claim them back do you think? Or is it too late?

    Have a good day :)
  • Just a thought if this helps save some extra money we use cashback gift cards.

We use the Asda one in the main and always top up a cople of days before shopping day to allow time for money to hit account. But have only topped up twice so far and made £14. We are planning to use the extra money at Christmas for the goodies. Also for Christmas/birthday present shopping we have a few others.

Hope this is okay to post this on here!

    Hi all,

Nothing else to declare as yet but hopefully I am laying the groundwork for the first few %'s soon. I did use my Boot's loyalty card to pay for two disposable cameras and a toothbrush on Saturday (plus I checked the points machine and it gave me a coupon for 25% of any dental care product) so in total I saved £9.38. This will hopefully get added to the total at the end of the month. I dar'nt transfer any money into the savings at the mo as Feb has been a very expensive month for us what with the BTL house and our daughters week long residential trip with the school (£250 + approx £100 in specialist clothing etc ).

On the plus side the tenants will be moving into the BTL tomorrow so as they were originally due to move in on 1st March it means we will get a bit more rent.

We also received £15 from the courts recently (we had a drunk driver crash into and demolish our wall at our other BTL property over a year ago and although we were awarded £250 compensation this has been paid very rarely and in dribs and drabs ).

I have booked a craft fair for Sun and Tues so hopefully may make 1 or 2% which I can actually declare.

Brilliant news about the job Little-Miss :T
    Mortgage - £2338.07 paid off Feb 2023 BTL 1 £51,089.10 £35789.36 paid off July 2025 BTL 2 £81,504.52 BTL 3 £77,497.02
  • Thanks CraftingMad, feeling more positive now.

Hey Readytobedebtfree, it'd be great to have you on board starting in March.

Definitely try to get charges back, it's the cost of a stamp and the worst they can say is no.

I've claimed charges & PPI from HSBC & Barclaycard via letter a while back (included a detailed schedule of charges & date they were taken) I put this together by sifting through my online banking statements to add up the charges & I wrote the letter using the the templates in the Reclaim section here.

For Barclaycard their statements only go back so far so I had to do a SAR (subject access request) letter first so they would send me my back history & I could add up the charges. They try to charge you £8 per statement reprint where as under the data protection act if you send a SAR letter then you get everything for a £10 admin fee.

For these charges I've claimed back most recently I just called up and politely explained my situation at the time the charges occured (out of work) and that I have been back on track for a long time & they refunded them on the spot!

Hi all, sorry ive been quite sparse this month. Unfortunately nothing to add. Might have 3% to add soon. Didnt list anything on Ebay this weekend as ive been SO busy! Its my daughters 4th birthday tomorrow so things have been a bit hectic!

£100 will be being paid on 28th (just over 10%) bringing us up to about 60%, i gave myself the deadline of 31/3 to clear this so really need to try hard in March. Need to earn/save £350  Its my birthday in March so im going to politely ask Mum and Dad (who i owe the money to) if they'll knock some money off as my birthday present, rather than them buying me something/giving me money etc.

Got 2 birthdays in March that i need to make things for, both in their 80's so im thinking a cushion cover for one and maybe some hankies or a PJ case for the other. (other simple sewing suggestions welcome)

  • Afternoon! Meal planning and doing the grocery challenge on the Old Style board has meant I've saved 3% this month - I set my budget to aim for at slightly lower than we normally spend and planned my meals as I normally do but stuck to the shopping list (also dropping from supermarket own brand to Value in some cases) and have saved £30. The monthly shopping bill can be anywhere up to £200, and I'm consistently now getting closer to £160. Very happy to report that. :)

    Morning all!

:) Just a little check in, work seems endless at the min! If I'm not at work, I'm working at home or filling in paperwork about work! :D Sheesh!

Got a little day trip planned out with my sisters next week, I paid for that upfront a while ago when I had some spare £'s so it's nice to look forward to it guilt free.

It feels really great when the favours you do for yourself start to pay off! Like planning in advance for birthdays so there's no present panic or sitting down writing a charges or PPI letter today so that there maybe a nice cheque coming through your door 8 weeks later.

Today I'm going to do a few more of those kinds of things e.g buy all of this years birthday cards in 1 go, advertise a few more gigs on fivesquids, write a couple of bank letters!

I'm sure future-me will be pleased!

Anyone know of ways to earn Amazon gift cards? Like surveys, questionnaires, trade ins etc? My mum is looking for ways to fund her Kindle book habit :)

    Hope you're all doing well!

How do you go about reclaiming bank charges. We had quite a few 2007-08 when we were living in rented accomodation, getting charged for going over our overdraft, then getting charged each day or week we were still overdrawn. Getting an extra charge if it was a direct debit etc. All very confusing but im sure they were £30 a pop. :( Not sure if ill be wasting my time trying to get them refunded or whether i should try. I dont have any bank statements that old any more so how do i go about checking?

Sorry for the rambled questions/post lol
