    Mortgage-free Glee!
Another nomination for TBeckett and budgetflyer for post of the month. I have confused things further though by adding dmg24 into the pot as she has helped me so much.

    Thank you all!

Just a quick slightly off topic question. I will be refunded in August but whats going to happen when I get money refunded onto the credit card? Im sure Ive heard in the past that a credit card cant be in credit. Will I have to try spend all the money or can I just do a weekly shop on it till the money is used up?

its a refund, just ask for the credit to be sent to you. bit different if you made an overpayment as that could be moneyl aundering.

how was your weekend holiday in milan tbecket100?
how bad is centrale station? and the filth comment, does that relate to the hotel or the area?

your post has got me worried now. We are due to spend 3 days in milan and 1 day trip to venice.
  • Hi, would someone be able to check this for me

I found the following hotel on hotelcomparison.com, NH Laguna Palace

staying 18th October till 23rd Ocotber for 2 adults and 1 infant

It is £1143 on easyjethotels and £441 on find-rooms.com

So this should work out as free?

On hotelcomparison.com it says that breakfast isn't included but when you go to the easyjet hotels website you can choose bed and breakfast, makes it more expensive.

I have emailed and got a reply saying they had forwarded it on to management.

    I cannot see any problem.

You have obviously booked the B&B option and rightly compared it to Find-Rooms. I hope you have taken a screen shot to prove the price if necessary and I would also do the same with the Terms and Conditions of Easyjet hotels just to be water tight.

Sorry guys just going off topic now.

The Hotel Dei Cavalieri was great (especially for free) watch the concierge as he insisted on taking the bag to the room with us and there was an awkward moment when he was just hanging on for his tip, which he didnt get. The bed was comfy, the breakfast was lovely (champagne as well - i was half cut by 8.30am). The hotel is dead easy to find, go to the top floor terrace.,

When you get dropped off by the bus from the airport, walk around the centrale station building from the outside clockwise and you will see an "M" for metro opp Mcdonalds. Take Line 3 (yellow) heading towards San Domato (or similar) and get off at Misouri. When you exit, head for the exit that says "Plaza Misouri", reach the top of the stairs and its right there on the right. Train tickets cost EURO 1 per person and there is a kiosk just as you get into the station.

    Now for the bad bit.

The central station is a magnificent building but the cretins of society hang around. I had half of nigeria, china, japan and eastern bloc trying to flog me umbrellas. I said to my other half "if they offer me one more I will buy it and shove it somewhere".

The area around the station is a dive. Graffitti, crime and people peddaling tat. You know its bad when the bus company sits someone in the boot of the bus to keep an eye on your bags.

The Metro part of central station is also very "colourful", i certainly would advise that money is well hidden, do not get your wallet out and do not speak to anyone. The metro stations and trains are littered with beggars, some playing on deformity for money and some with their children cap in hand.

I was nervous about Milan when I read the guide book. The top ten things to do were visiting churches and cathedrals. Duomo is one stop away (or a short walk from the hotel - head up the road towards the right of the Madonna H&M advert and carry on) and houses the cathdral and shopping areas, though I have to say, 3hrs and I was done with that area.

I went with a preconception that I wouldnt go short of a plate of Carbonara or a pavement Cafe, but WATCH IT, upon checking the prices of a pavement cafe the food was priced well but 1L of beer was 15 Euros. Be very careful.

We ate at a charming Trattoria just north, good wholesome food in a perfect environment. Milan by the way doesnt allow smoking indoors.

I was so disappinted, I was tempted to fly home the same day, others may love it but the bus load on the way home agreed when they said "I hope Barcelona is better".

Anyway you can kill a day and go to Lake Como. This is simply stunning (if sunny). Trains run every hour and it takes 41 mins. 1st class is an extra 60p and we had a compartment all to ourself. ;) (if anyone wants details of getting to and from Como, please ask me). Put Lake Como into google and see for yourself. They offer a boat tour for 6euros each. well worth it and a nice way to spend the day.

I would never be tempted to go to Milan again, i thought being the fashion capital it would be great, but it didnt have any life (THE METRO WAS DEAD AS WERE THE STREETS AT 9PM ON A SAT NIGHT!)

If you are thinking eek, panic not, I would advise having a day in the city and book a few trips to escape!

(THE METRO WAS DEAD AS WERE THE STREETS AT 9PM ON A SAT NIGHT!)

Thats because everyone starts partying from midnight - it's the Milan way. Anyone looking for nightlife head to the Navigli area. I stayed at the Hotel dei Cavalieri too and loved it - but unfortunately I paid to stay there...
