Item missing in the post

If someone tells me that an item has gone missing in the post is unreasonable for me to ask them to check with local sorting office to see if it is there.
As once it leaves me and hits royal mail I have no control over it.
Some people seem to think that is up to me to chase for them.
And I am wrong and they are right.

You can ask them to check at the post office, but beyond that, it's your responsibility as a seller to make sure it gets to them.
If it doesn't, you should refund them.My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

I agree that I need to refund them if it has not arrived.
But I have no control once it has been sent. If I have POP to show it has been posted. I have done everything that I can to get to the person unless I have hand delivered it.
But I have people say to me that I should phone there local sorting office to find out if it is there. As there postie always leaves a card.

Only fair to ask them to check the sorting office, quite a few psoties don't leave cards (there old faithful might have been off in the day in question). If you suspect they can't be bothered though it might be worth checking with the sorting office yourself.
Buyers do have a little bit of responsibility in helping themselves.0 -
you've just got to think, how would you like it if you bought something online, and after a few days of not receiving it you complained, then they asked you to check the local sorting office.
i personally would tell them where to go
lets face it a lot of 'lost' items are items where buyers have just thought "well theres no proof of postage/delivery so i am going to get my money back and a free item.
it's about time ebay had a section where you could still leave a positive feedback but indicate that the item was lost in the mail, and this would be there for all to see, then once someone gets a few of these it would soon become obvious what they were up to.Where the !!!! has the Shrug gone!
just doesn't cut it... :huh::think::huh: and these don't come close0 -

One has to assume it is something that would not fit through the letter box.
If so it is only fair that buyer checks the sorting office before demanding replacement/ refund etc from the seller. Not everyone is in 100% of the time and if postie has not left a card there is not much seller can do.
Get real and be reasonable!!0 -
Most sorting offices aren't reachable by phone. Certainly with mine, the only way you can check what's there is to physically go. Hardly reasonable to expect the seller to do that.My TV is broken!

so if you bought something from Amazon and hadn't received it in a reasonable time frame, you would be happy to trapse down to your local sorting office? no neither would i.
and whilst Amazon is a big business, if you want eBay to be taken seriously you have to expect the same level of service you would receive from a big business.
some sorting offices can be miles away, i would never ask a buyer to do that and would not expect a seller to do thatWhere the !!!! has the Shrug gone!

Firstly, you'll have to wait 15 days before claiming of RM
If you haven't sent it with a 'Signed For' service, the buyer maybe trying it on & trying to get a refund from you.
i.e. GET A FREE ITEM SCAM, as you won't have a Tracking Number to give to Paypal.0 -

I always get proof of posting so that you can make a claim from the post office if it has gone missing.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
