so if you bought something from Amazon and hadn't received it in a reasonable time frame, you would be happy to trapse down to your local sorting office? no neither would i.
and whilst Amazon is a big business, if you want eBay to be taken seriously you have to expect the same level of service you would receive from a big business.
some sorting offices can be miles away, i would never ask a buyer to do that and would not expect a seller to do that
So everyone twiddles their thumbs until RM get sick of hanging on to to it, and it's returned to the seller?
Ebay is not like Amazon. My TV is broken!

Proof of posting is not acceptable by paypal, so you'll end up refunding the buyer & having to make a claim & wait for RM to refund you for the item cost less VAT & Postage0

I always say in my despatch emails that "if after a few days parcel not received could they in the first instance please check at there local sorting office,as postman does not always leave card"
I do this because in the past i have spent hrs trying to get through to a sorting office (who do not answer the phone:mad: ) i am aware that as a seller it is basically down to me to make sure buyer receives parcel but there is a limit.
On the odd occasion "parcel not received" it HAS been sitting down at sorting office.0 -
if you put in your T's & C's that you expect the buyer to contact/goto their local sorting office in the event of an item not delivered, then it is acceptable, but other than that it is not.
if you cannot accept this and/or the fact that you will have to wait 16 days to file with the RM then i suggest you should send everything by special delivery
i can see the negative now "expected me to chase after the royal mail, and wouldn't refund until RM refunded him/her"Where the !!!! has the Shrug gone!
just doesn't cut it... :huh::think::huh: and these don't come close0 -
I think you're overly paranoid about the willingness of buyers to be reasonable

If there was a chance there was an item sitting for me at the post office, I'd ruddy well go round there. My TV is broken!

WOW, think I will go hide under my sofa. Did not expect WWIII to break.
My local sorting office is only open between 5am and 12.30 monday to saturday.
I deal with them during the course of my work and if I ring before 12.30 the phone is answered 99% of the time and they are very helpful.
So what I am expected to do then is not to ring the buyers local sorting office but go there and find the package my self  and then hand deliver.
Sorry but anyone with half a brain should realise that once I have sent the item I am at the mercy of RM. I can't control what time and when they will deliver the parcel if at all. Which some people ask
I have no problem with contacting my local sorting office to check if a parcel of mine is there. Be it via e-bay or amazon. I am lucky that mine is about mile and half from my home so could pop in on my way to work.
Why is people seem to want to have there hands held and be babied with everything. We all know things get lost and ebay is run on trust.
As a buyer I run the risk of things not being as described, things being broken or being ripped off. So I would want to get in contact with the local sorting office to make sure that I get my parcel as soon as possible.
But each to there own opinion.

What is the problem? Item is not delivered so the seller should refund the buyer and claim money back off the RM. It is their fault if cards are not left. The only problem is that you lose out on the postage, which I will never understand.
I get the opposite problem. My posties don't even try to deliver packages - just the cards. Many times I have sat by the door and seen them deliver the card without ringing the door bell or even knocking.:wall:0 -

Same thing happens here, particularly annoying as I can't drive. As a buyer I would not expect to have to go to the sorting office to see if my missing parcel was there, I paid the postage and expect it to be delivered. I would be unimpressed if I was asked to do so by a seller. I recently had an item from ebay go missing in the post. I informed the seller a week after the auction and agreed to wait a bit longer just incase. After 2 weeks still no joy the seller gave me a choice of another item or a refund, not once did she ask me to check with my sorting office. I don't think you should have to do any chasing either though you have the proof of posting there is little else you can do. Just refund or replace, things do go missing in the post every now and then.0 -

Just out of interest... if the item you were waiting for was rare and irreplacable... and you really really wanted it... would you go to the sorting office? My TV is broken!

So if a parcel is too big for letterbox,no one in to receive it and it gets returned to sorting office, is that the sellers fault!!!Same thing happens here, particularly annoying as I can't drive. Seller ends up refunding and losing postage just because a buyer cannot be bothered to check at sorting office.0
