Hi Kazza
Maybe you could help me, I currently have 14,000 in an ISA that pays 5.5% p/a, is it possible to transfer this sum to a better paying ISA account and if so what options are available to me as I'm from Northern Ireland.
Thanks.0 -

Hi jizba - Yes, it is possible to transfer your existing ISA savings to an ISA paying a higher rate of interest. Do check that there are no transfer out penalties on your current ISA and if it is a fixed rate ISA, ensure that it has matured before transferring it.
A website called moneyni.com should help, as it highlights the best deals in financial services that are available in Northern Ireland. Check out this link from moneyni.com, near the bottom of the page it lists the best cash ISAs available for Northern Ireland residents. Some of the ISAs listed (e.g. Northern Rock 6.01%) are also on the opening post of this thread.
It's likely that there are other ISAs that are also available to people in Northern Ireland, check with the ISA provider you are interested in transferring to.

Thankyou Kazza
I originally applied for Barclays Mini Cash ISA, but have since noticed that A+L have a better one. I wanted to open one of their premier direct accounts anyway, so I have contacted Barclays to cancel with them, and have applied online with A+L.
This is all thanks to your wonderful help. Thankyou for keeping the list updated - and for helping to make us all rich.
Have put you forward for post of the month.

The Northern Rock ISA seems like a good one. Does it have any transfer out penalties after the fixed deal has ended on 15/05/08?0

After 15.05.2008, the Northern Rock ISA does not have any transfer out penalties. They only charge a penalty (60 days loss of interest) if you transfer out before the ISA has matured.

hi all,
just want to know that im donig the right thing!
Have had isa's for ages but had to take most of the money out to pay for certain things.
Have £500 in mine and partners isa's and want to use that money plus our £6k when we sell our house in may. Was thinking of going for northern rock fixed 6.01 therefore having about £7k with them.
Would that be sensible. Other idea is to wait for interest rate rise in may hopefully! However may miss a omnths interest so will it be worth it?
Thanks,0 -
ah just thought can i put the remainder of my isa and still put in £3k this year?
don't think i can can i?0 -

You can each deposit up to £3,000 into a cash ISA this tax year (provided neither of you have contributed to an ISA after April 5th 2007). ISAs are individual savings accounts so you would both have to complete application forms to move your ISAs to Northern Rock. Your partner will have her ISA while you will have your own separate ISA.
Even though interest rates are expected to rise next month, it isn't certain that higher fixed rate ISAs will be launched. Variable rate ISAs tend to follow BOE base rate, but fixed rate ISA rates are determined by the money markets. The Northern Rock 6.01% ISA is a very good option. Please call me 'Kazza'.0
