Hi Kazza, Many thanks for your reply and all the effort
you put into mainaining this Thread. It is appreciated.
It's the Abbey for me then... I'm going to call into a branch tomorrow
and see how quick I can get the Account details, to enable me to phone
A&L and ask them to arrange the transfer.
It's a pity A&L can't see any benefit in retaining existing customers.
They're so keen to attract new customers, but ignore the rest of us
running out of the 'back door' !!!0 -

Don't expect Abbey to be quick. I handed in my application form on 10th April to transfer my ISA from Halifax. I have yet to receive anything from them!0 -
Glad I decided to wait till after May 10th Base Rate rise before choosing an ISA provider for this Tax Year. Nearly chose Abbey, but judging by jem16's experience just as well I didn't!0

Well Jem and ED, I'm having second thoughts now !!
I think I'll phone A&L on Monday, and switch my ISA funds
into their Direct ISA Issue 3 at 5.4%.
Then wait for the dust to settle after May 10th and reassess
the situation.0 -
Advice please, I was going to transfer all my existing ISA's to Northern Rock paying 6.01% and invest minimum £500 to open the account and put the balance of £2500 into Barclays at 6.5%.
There is a declaration on the Northern Rock form that asks me to confirm that I will not open another mini cash ISA in the same tax year.
I thought you could as long as they do not exceed £3000 in total?0 -
As long as you dont put money into it then its fine. You can open the northern rock one with no new money - i.e. transfers only - then put the full 3k into Barclays.0

Inland Revenue rules only allow you to contribute a maximum £3,000* to ONE mini cash ISA each tax year. You cannot split the £3,000 between two different ISA providers e.g. putting £500 into Northern Rock and £2,500 into Barclays using the allowance from one tax year is not allowed. *The maximum allowance for cash mini ISAs is rising to £3,600 from April 6th 2008.
You can transfer your existing ISAs to Northern Rock without having to deposit any of this tax years allowance (2007/08) with them. All you need to do is indicate on the form that you do not wish to subscribe to a mini cash ISA with them for the 2007/08 tax year, you just wish to transfer in existing ISAs held elsewhere. You could then apply for the Barclays 6.5% ISA using your 2007/08 allowance. Please call me 'Kazza'.0 -

I'm also in the process of transferring an ISA from Smile to Abbey.
Applied online for the Abbey Direct ISA on 9th March.
They sent application with letter dated 13th March (but received 20th March..)
I posted my signed application, copy ID and transfer authority on 21st March.
Got a comp slip acknowledgement (undated but received on 18th April) from Abbey saying the transfer request has been sent to Smile and can take 30 days to process...
25th April Smile ISA still open but checking today it has been closed (presume on 30th April).
So it looks like it has taken 7 weeks to get the transfer done.
Wonder how long my similar A&L to Kent Reliance transfer request takes...0 -
Has anyone opended up a Northern Rock ISA and tranfered existing ISA allowance. Seems like a good deal to me and was just wondering if anyone has any good/bad experiences with them?0
