If I open up a new ISA in 2010/11 (i.e. next month) and the new ISA doesn't allow transfers in, does the money in the old ISA that I no longer contribute to then become liable for tax?

No, the old ISA is completely independent from the new ISA.

See here for what your options are with regards to the old ISA: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2302457

Don't want a war but after 30 years dealing with Abbey/Satander, I have not had a single issue. Maybe it's because I pay up on time??????????????

    Feel free to comment, ;)

Please tell the rest of us who haven't been with Abbey or Santander or whatever they're marketing themselves this week, how to open a savings account where, the whole premise of such an account is to save.

You're an exception. I invite you to search the board for recent experiences of good Santander conduct. And compare it with bad Santander comment.

Repeat the above with other UK banks.

Datum: I opened an ISA account for transfer of funds. They didn't send the paperwork to initiate the transfer. On phoning, to wonder why they didn't send transfer documents? 'it's a common problem.'

I'm in the market of looking at new ISAs for this year 10/11. My needs are:

    1. Allow ISA transfer in.
    2. Easy access without penalty (as I will now need to dip into my savings)
    3. Not branch or post operated (as if they don't do things online these days anyway!).

There's not a great deal of options around (that I've looked at anyway). I'm currently with First Direct, and I must admit I like the fact they pay montly interest rather than waiting for maturity. Does anyone know what the rate will be with these, now I have passed a year? Will it drop like a brick? (well I suppose more like a pebbel as the rates have been pants for the past couple of years). Hope that makes sense.

If the rate will remain the same (or there abouts) I might just stick with them for the convenience of already having all my previous ISA's accrued with them.

I hope someone can give me some inspiration!

    Cheers

There's no need to choose an ISA which allows transfers in! You can keep your previous subs separate from your new ISA, if it gives you the best combination of rates and other conditions.

You might get one though ;). I never owed Abbey a penny, but it didn't stop them losing my ISA transfer cheque a couple of years' ago. Took a couple of months to sort out.

No problem, just adding my own experience, must have been lucky. I had the same issues as you, but with another provider ;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Yes people have - I have read on here several people have opened this ready to pay in for 2010/11. To be honest though on £5,100 you aren't talking much extra interest for 0.25% (when compared to Coventry BS for example). Ok bank rates could rise in the next year, but I doubt it.

The Manchester BS Regular Saver ISA looks interesting but I can't find any info yet, not even a mention, on Manchester's website.

I suppose the 3.5% end-of-year bonus is probably only guaranteed in the first year or something. We shall see.

I have an ING Savings Account. I received a letter from them yesterday to advise that as an existing customer I would receive an additional 0.5% on top of their 2.5% Cash ISA rate, Instant Access. Rate guaranteed for 12 months. No code to quote so not specific to a selected customer base. Their website advises that this product will be available to all existing customers commencing 6th but no further details - am not sure about transfers.
