The first post of this thread has been updated.

This has been a major update this time, as there have been a number of rate changes and a lot of new ISA launches since the last update (just over a week ago).

ISAs by Buckingham, Scottish and Yorkshire Building societies have been added to the list. They all pay 3.50%, but there is quite a high minimum balance requirement to qualify. Still ISAs have been running for some years now, so a lot of people have enough ISA funds to meet the requirement.

There have also been a lot of fixed rate ISA additions. The most notable are from Birmingham Midshires paying 4.20% and Halifax's offerings paying 4.10% for a 4 year fix, 4.00% for 3 year and 3.90% for 2 years.

I have added the 'Rate effective:' field to each of the variable rate ISAs. I was going to do that last weekend, but I wasn't at home so it wasn't possible until now.

The next update will be next weekend, as I have another busy week at work ahead of me.:)

Seems that the Birmingham Midshires FRISA at 4.2% has gone. The new rate is 3.5%.

Yes, that's correct and the BM 4.20% ISA was quickly removed from the first post of this thread during my update on the 26th January. I didn't add the new BM 3.50% ISA/rate to the first post because it is currently (at the time of writing this post) beaten by Julian Hodge (4.00%) and Halifax (3.70%).

It depends on which HSBC ISA you have, as they've launched quite a few over the years. Check out this link for the HSBC interest rates, here. If the link does work click on the Cash ISA and click on 'Interest Rates'.

If another ISA is paying 0.50% or more interest than your ISA, then I would consider transferring out. If you are thinking about transferring to variable rate ISA, I would hang on for a week until rates settle down a bit. Some providers may change their rates again on or around Feb 1st.

Loads of rate news recently which needs reflecting in the main list:

Dudley's 3.60% top rate is now down to 2.10% (-1.50%) from 1 Feb 2009. There's a lesson for anyone who thought they'd opt for a rate which hasn't changed for the last 2 rate cuts!

Leek United's 3.75% top rate is also now down to 2.50% (-1.25%) from 1 Feb 2009. Same comment about an old rate applies!

A&L Easy ISA down 0.50% to 3.00% from 2 Feb 2009. (It says down by 1.00% on Moneyfacts, but that's wrong).

    Bucks BS ISA down 0.75% from 1 Feb 2009 to 2.75% (for £25k) or 2.50% (for £100).

Scottish BS ISA down 0.9% to 2.5% (for £30k) and other tiers down 0.9%-1.0% from 28 Jan 2009.

I'm sure there'll be loads more over the weekend and early next week. As Kazza says, I would hold fire until the end of next week before starting the transfer process if that's what you want to do.
  • Julian Hodge 1 year fixed now down to 3.5% just as I was about to post my forms :-(

The first post of this thread has been updated.

I've mainly removed the ISAs from the list that we know will be cutting their rates over the weekend/Monday. In addition to those MarkyMarkD has listed, the Harpenden Simply ISA will be going down to 2.75% w.e.f. 01/02/2009.

I've changed the NatWest E-ISA listing to include the new rate tiers they've introduced. In order to get the higher rate of 3.51%, your balance must now be at least £10,000. Balances totalling between £1 - £9,999 will receive a rate of 3.25%.

The Julian Hodge Fixed rate ISA rate has been amended to 3.50%.

I will do a major update on Sunday when I expect more rate changes will be announced. As well as an update on Monday evening (it has to be during the evening when I get home, as I have a full-time job...). By Monday evening, I expect that most providers will have updated their websites by then, so I can do just one major update on that day. It'll make it easier to compare the rates fairly if most providers have applied their rate changes by then.

Thanks for all of the complimentary PMs. I'm glad that the list has been so useful to MSEs.:) It's hard to believe that the thread has been running for nearly two years now.
