I agree with your contrast.

I was going to switch to Monument as my current ISA drops to 3.7% tomorrow, but Monument has dropped to 3.74% already!
I feel sorry for anyone who has joined them. They've falsely enticed people to join at 4.28% and instantly dropped their rate to 3.74%. They shouldn't be allowed to deceive people like this!

I'm not sticking up for Monument, but have they dropped the rate for those customers who got in at 4.28%?
It sounded to me that they had just pulled the offer of the boosted rate for new customers, but still offering the other lower rate. We'll soon find out.
Two of the ISA's I signed up for in this new tax year are now at lower rates. Tandem fixed at 4.51% was pulled pretty quickly and a lower rate of 4.35% offered, it's now at 4%. Just noticed that Vanquis Triple Access issue 5 at 4.3% has been pulled to be replaced with issue 6 at 4.08%.
Those are the only two I've checked up on, but am sure there are others.1 -
The Momument rate is still the same for customers who joined when the boosted rate was still on offer. Btw, I koathe to mention it as I know it's been flagged as off topic…but regarding my little Monument issue with the bonus referral reward…I had an email from their CS stating it was escalated to management and they can confirm I will definitely get it…..though i still haven't 😅

?
I switched when it was 4.28%, still getting 4.28%
All they've done is remove the boosted one from the site - assuming they must have met the target if new customers they were wanting

I can confirm that Santander do contact you shortly before a FRISA matures. Mine matures 1st May & I had emails & secure messages from them 6th and 17th April about maturity options.
The 17th April message spelled out that I could ‘Upgrade’ my maturing ISA into a new FRISA during the 28 days before maturity. New rate is 0.25% higher so that’s what I’ve done. Account number stays the same & interest was credited.
All very slick.8 -
That's the danger of using easy access accounts.

Except it hasn't dropped, that rate (3.74%) hasn't changed and been available for a few months. Just that the account at 4.28% for new customers has been pulled. However, yes easy access rates do drop and can rise too.

I've held two of those accounts with Santander in recent years - I opened both online, obtained eVouchers for each via the promotion and arranged transfers (both in and out) without ever visiting a branch or making a phone call.
I've not transferred internally ('upgraded') to another Santander fixed rate ISA on maturity but, even then, they state that 'the easiest way to upgrade your ISA is through Mobile and Online Banking'.
They do state in the T&Cs, however, that you need to visit a branch, phone or write to them in order to close the account before maturity - that would appear to be the only aspect of account management that can't be done online, as far as I can see.

Can you confirm if you were charged a early cancellation penalty fee for doing this?
I have a Fixed ISA maturing 1st of May too and I contacted them yesterday via chat, as on the log in page it said that you could upgrade to their new Fixed 4.50%, but early closure charge applies (unless this was aimed towards the new 4.50% ISA). In the letter it said that you could upgrade within 28 days of maturity, so I wanted clarity. The member of staff said that yes you can normally upgrade within 28 days and not pay any penalty charges, but then said I had to wait until the 1st May!
