Will the insurance company catch me?

Hello, I am currently in the process of getting a mortgage with my g/f however the cheapest option was to go it alone in her name only because of my CH, anyway basically on the insurance questionaire there is a few questions about my history that could comprimise our relationship BADLY should she find out the truth. I can't really say as it is public forum bla bla bla but basically as she has to fill in the form I have already filled in and I have lied and said no to one of the questions regarding my health history. I didn't realise they would need proof from my doctors who will obviously now tell them of this thing I had. They will then say no to the claim and no doubt they will tell her it is because I lied and maybe even what about. It really isn't that bad as such and somethng that happened before I was with my current g/f but not an easy thing to tell someone.
Am I worrying over nothing or should I try persuading her to take me off her policy till my name is on the mortgage as for the £20 quid it will cost me per month the house wouldn't get paid off anyway should I die any time soon?
Sorry for long post please can some of you lovely folk help me

hi
please dont take this the wrong way as im only offering a thought but...... shouldnt you be completley honest with someone who you are going into such a big financial commitment with?i dont know if thats the right or wrong question to ask you but its the first thing that comes to mind. That aside, if its such a big thing for you that you do not want anyone to know about ( i can understand that things seem to be best left in the past) surely for an extra £20 a month to avoid the secret being spilled its worth it?0 -
tell her your mate suggested 2 seperate policies would be best, as you get double the cover, often for a very similar premium.

Your medical history is your business only, the insurance company can not/will not give details to your g/f, so you need not worry, if they have asked for a doctors report, then they will find out your secret, depending what it is they may rate (load) your premium or decline you, but if they are aware at outset, they cannot decline a claim later if they give you the policy.I am a Mortgage Adviser

I must admit that we never got a copy of our medical history that the doctor sent to Northern Rock. However, our broker did blurb out when OH and I met with him that because of a 'too short for my weight' problem my insurance was going to be higher than OH's who does a 'High Risk' job! .... Ohhhhhhhh ..... If I could of crawled into the space between the radiator and the wall.......! :wall:
Personally, I would come clean! Sit down with your GF and tell her. How would you feel if something happened to you due to your health matter and she found out that way!?!
Would you rather be told if it were her or had it kept a secret from you??:dance: "Never save something for a special occasion. Every day in your life is a special occasion". _party_0 -
Well, in theory had you misled the insurance company your policy is void anyway should you claim.
If the problem is standard clinic and antibiotics then dont worry to much, if it was a transplant or a sex change then it may be an issue. Well, thought it may take your mind of it by mentioning it.
If you do decide to mention it to the G/F, ensure it is not when her parents are around or you are in the public domain.0 -
Thanks for all the replies, the thing is it is a very embarrassing thing I had and could be seen as quite dirty and as I didn't tell her 3 years ago when we met it would destroy any trust she had in me. I really can't see it effecting the premium as it isn't a recurring problem and has absolutely no threat on my actual health as far as living goes. I am/was just worried that they may tell the mrs no and for what reason. Sounds like I may have been worrying about nothing. Still might try getting myself off the policy for now though so I can take out my own in due time.0

On a personal level I would simply come out with it
If you were ever to need to make a clain - the fact you lied, may invalidate the policy, and the look what a mess you would end up in.
As has been stated - take out two seperate policies (monthly amount will be the same). You complete your form, GF completes her form - job done and no need to lie, and fully dislcosed and covered.
Lies have a habit of biting you on the behind

Glass Half Empty, It all depends on the type of policy that you have applied for. Some policies are underwritten at the point of application (life insuramce, critical illness, permanent health) others are not (accident, sickness, unemployment) but do not cover previous conditions.
As you are not yet married and for flexibility, you should apply for seperate policies (at little extra cost). As mentioned in here by the others, no one can have access to your medical history without your permission.
Whether you should divulge the previous problem is a personal thing.

If its any help, I once did a mortgage for a couple with a similar problem. When we got to the 'sex with other men' question in the life prop, the bloke went a bit red and very quiet - turns out he'd spent most of his time at Uni experimenting with his bi side. They had a bit of a chat, agreed it was all in the past and they went ahead and competed on the house purchase. As far as I know, they're still together (although she never invites her brother round...). Personally, since its all in the past, I would only tell her if you can handle any secrets she has which she might decide to come clean about....Number 86 - Stole a car from a one legged woman... I'm just trying to be a better person0
