Bad Driving

Seems like you may have been taught badly then, enter a motorway with a view to not causing people behind you to have to brake suddenly, so you should be accelerating when entering a motorway.
What are you on about?
You say to avoid people behind you on a slip road braking, you should accelerate onto a motorway!
The motorway users dictate the speed at which you join the motorway, you don't dictate that to motorway drivers from a slip road!
The numpty already on the motorway driving in the left hand, when they could easily move safely to their right to accomodate you, is a pain, however, you still should not force yourself into his path, you would be driving without due care, and most probably the chap already oblivious on the motorway in the left lane is too.
You accelerate onto a motorway only if it is safe to do so, not as a matter of course.0 -
This slip road not far from my home has an average of an accident once a week. Its always rear end shunts.
https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=meir+stoke+on+trent&hl=en&ll=52.978382,-2.107082&spn=0.003217,0.00736&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=6.465489,15.073242&t=h&hnear=Meir,+Stoke-on-Trent,+United+Kingdom&z=17&layer=c&cbll=52.978382,-2.107082&panoid=malMWa4i2tBTJqVNWRiBqw&cbp=12,317.95,,0,0
In fairness its a poor design. The wall to the right means your visibility is poor until you have literally yards left causing many a driver to slam on the brakes at the end of the slip, in turn causing rear end shunts. Whenever I use this particular slip I always leave a larger than usual gap to allow for it.
Now, on the other side of that tunnel is another slip:
https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=meir+stoke+on+trent&hl=en&ll=52.97589,-2.09679&spn=0.003243,0.00736&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=6.465489,15.073242&t=h&hnear=Meir,+Stoke-on-Trent,+United+Kingdom&z=17&layer=c&cbll=52.975927,-2.096746&panoid=VTj_WBYhi4g7rlnAdtMALA&cbp=12,97.53,,0,0
Now that one looks perfect, look behind and you can see a long, straight slip road with excellent visibility onto the A50, merging in is easy. But.. look where the coach is. Barely a hundred yards in front of the slip road is an exit for a service station which also houses a coach depot. This means you come down the slip road and can merge at 50mph with relative ease but then often find yourself having to rapidly stop because a coach is turning at 10mph into the depot. This has also caused many rear end shunts.
To me, your average driver not roadplanner, it seems that both of these slip roads were given little thought.0 -
I just googled that. What sort of moron designed a junction where you join from an A road to the outside lane of a motorway? Instead of taking the sliproad over the motorway on a bridge. Perhaps it was one of those 60s urban planners who also thought tower blocks and raised walkways were great.
Well, there were other plans when it was all built, and then they were abandoned, and there was no more money, so that's what we ended up with.
The 'slip road' was actually supposed to be part of a new motorway, and the motorway was originally supposed to be a slip road, apparently. So there you go.0 -
there were cars zooming past at 80mph+, on my inside
That section has been 50 limited and SPECS controlled for years. The cameras are definitely active too, as I've seen a few NIPs for that stretch on Pepipoo.
Just checked - SPECS installed April 2007.
It is probably the worst design of an entry slip I've seen though.I am a mortgage broker. So people already on major road do not have priority because of these pig ignorant people
Fortunately, you will see by the lack of people thanking you on this thread, that you are the one who comes across as being "pig ignorant".
Motorways can be dangerous places, and it is down to considerate drivers to alleviate that danger, by anticipating and reacting to traffic movement around them.
If you are coming up to a motorway junction, where traffic merges, then be prepared to mirror, indicate, manouvre inrder to let people merge safely, without impeding them, and without the arrogant, selfish attitude which you display.0 -

You may say I'm ignorant but you sound even more ignorant0 -
OP every post you have made on this thread is to refer to other drivers as ignorant. I would have hoped that having read the other respondents you would have had time to re-evaluate your stance on this issue.
Yes sure barging is not the best way to join a motorway but it is up to everyone to aware and act with some common sense. The last thing you want is stationary traffic on a slip road, imagine joining a motorway from a standstill.0 -

I find this a lot!
I have to drive on a dual carriageway every day to take daughter to school and sometimes it's a nightmare trying to get off the slip road because cars will either speed up to block you or wont move over when the other lane is empty and they are perfectly able to do so.
It's all very well talking about what *should* happen with a slip road but the reality very much depends on who is driving on the main section of road at the time. Imo.Herman - MP for all!0 -
waiting on a slip road to a major road - is OP serious (assuming of course things aren't congested where this may be necessary when major road is also clogged up)? How would it even be possible to judge whether there is enough time to go when those on the road are doing 60+ whilst you're moving from a standstill - surprised no one on the major road has gone into the back of you tbh. I wouldn't be too happy if I had to stop on a slip road if you were the car in front - you would be putting my life in danger frankly when i then had to get onto the road.
Safest way is to match speeds and blend, which is of course part of the highway code.0
