The alternative to food replacement (lipotrim) is meal replacement (slimfast), but I have heard good reports on Hoodia. Pfizer have just paid millions for the right to market this product. Its a natural appetite suppressant, based on cactus leaves.

    Here's an article

Now firmly established as one of the main suppliers of Hoodia based products, Pure Herbal Extracts™ chemist's are studying and evaluating the latest health research to produce an exciting new range of products.
"Now that our Hoodia products are firmly established and expanding we are using the latest research to create in demand health supplements to cater for the widest markets possible."

"Due to the overwhelming success of our Hoodia Gordonii products, we are expanding our product range, using the latest research to produce in demand 'whole body' natural health supplements." Said UK wholesaler Vic Carrara.

"The Advanced Diets UK™ brand name simply doesn't reflect our growing product range, so we have decided to adopt the name 'Pure Herbal Extracts™'"

Pure Herbal Extracts™ (formerly known as Advanced Diets UK™), has established itself as one of the World leaders in producing premium Kalahari Hoodia Gordonii products. You might be unfamiliar with their brand name, but a closely guarded secret is the fact that they supply many of the World's leading Hoodia Labels with their own products.

For centuries Hoodia Gordonii was used by African Bushmen to stave off hunger pangs and increase energy, during long hunting expeditions. More effective than glucose, Hoodia Gordonii sends a signal to the brain fooling it into thinking that the body has eaten sufficiently.

"Feedback from just some of the thousands of people worldwide that have taken our products, is showing people reducing their intake of calories enough to lose up to two pounds a week with ease."

Known by many children in the USA as a 'pet', the Chia plant's amazing properties as a natural energy booster has been combined with Hoodia to combat the dieter's dilemma – low energy – in one of the first new products to be launched, Chia Fat Blaster Plus™.

Aztec warriors were said to use Chia to as a high energy 'supplement' on their conquests. The Indians of the south west would eat as little as a teaspoon full when going on a 24hr forced march. It is interesting that 500 years later, modern science has concluded that Pre-Columbian diets were superior to present diets. Forced into obscurity, chia now offer a new opportunity to improve human nutrition by providing a natural source of omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and dietary fibre.

You can't turn on a television, pick up a newspaper, or go to a doctor's appointment these days without hearing about high blood pressure. It's a sad fact that, according to the American Heart Association, over two million Americans find out they suffer from high blood pressure; of these, more than 45,000 die annually as a result of the condition.

This led Pure Herbal Extracts™ to follow research by the US Department of Agriculture, Rutgers University in New Jersey, and recent USDA studies to develop one of the highest potency Blueberry supplements currently available.

"They are such a power packed fruit. Research and studies are indicating that Blueberries can decrease your risk of cancer, help prevent heart disease and stroke by reducing the build up of so-called "bad" cholesterol, guard against Alzheimer's and other neurological diseases, promote urinary tract health, optimize vision health and reversing the causes of blindness … and the list just goes on."

"The main challenge is taking enough of them to see the benefits, which is why we came up with our Blueberry Max supplements. Let's be honest, we haven't always the time in the mornings to do and eat all the things we know we should do to stay healthy. That's why we developed our this product."

Now Pure Herbal Extracts™ are on a global march to spread the news, and help establish distributors worldwide for their products. Anyone that wants high quality health products and at the same time enjoy healthy profits, need to have a look at this company.

Well, I'm hardly the best advert, given that my weight loss is VERY slow but at least I'm not gaining any more, BUT I've already said somewhere else that using a smaller plate can help. And I have trained the family to dish me up about half as much as they have if they're in charge at that point. (I have 3 stick-thin teenage boys with hollow legs and a non-overweight husband to feed!) I'm sure both of those help.

Plus, I always weigh pasta and frozen stuff before I start cooking: it's the only way I can be sure I have done enough. I have completely given up cooking double quantities with the intention of freezing some: boys see a saucepan of food and regard it as a challenge to finish it!

The other tips would be to make sure you're drinking plenty of water, and if you're a snacker then hide the biscuits and head for the fruit bowl. And finally to make sure as far as possible that what you are cooking is healthy and cooked in a healthy way: lots of fruit and veg, grilling rather than frying etc.

My routine involves workouts four or five times a week for 50 minutes at a time. I keep my heart rate at about 160, and do high intensity interval training - basically getting your heart rate up to about 90% of the maximum for a minute, cooling down, doing it again, so your body thinks it is doing more than it actually is. It's painful, but it works.

I'm qute interested in what makes a good work out. I have membership of an Esporta club, I used to swim alot there, and have started to go regularly again, but I never know what I should be doing in the gym. The staff in there are all young and trendy and last time they set me any targets, I literally couldn't walk for about 4 days. Seems a shame not to use the facilities though.

What would you recommend as a routine for a 40 year old couch potato to start off with?

well. i'm back on the wagon from today afer a sorry few months...

I lost just over 4 stone with SW in about 7 months (and was half way to target), but my metabolism just got stuck in September. Nothing worked. Green, red, mix to max, nothing. Had a good week with the Fast Forward plan (and was very very hungry!) but then back to virtually nothing.

I stopped going to SW in October, as I felt I was getting nowhere and I was paying money for various temporary consultants to come and go, and I was doing the weigh ins each week and so felt I was getting nothing for my money.

Fast forward to today. Almost 2 stone put back on and climed back on the green and red day bus this morning, almost glad to be re-starting. And I'm going to use this thread as my support rather than going back to class.

I look and I feel terrible. All the sugary things I was eating over Christmas started to give me headaches and I've no energy whatsoever.

So, Green day to star me off (my favourite!) - I've got Quorn sausages in the oven for my breakfast and I'm going to do a can of beans to go over them!!!!

I want the weighed I've re-gained off by end of February (i've got a lot to lose so it will come off quickly to stat with, hopefully) and then plan from there.

What really hit home was that I was a runner up in a poetry competition for SW last year and they've printed my entry in this months magazine.

I re-read it and just felt I was letting myself down, and my OH as well who has been very supportive.

The easiest way to describe food for me , is that it is my addiction - like a smoker and cigarettes - I have to be putting something in my mouth. I'm an intelligent woman (allegedly), so I know exactly what I should be doing, but it is very very hard.

Ah well, a new year, a new start and I WILL be in all those size 16's this summer that I bought off ebay last year to be wearing this winter!!!!

Does anyone know the current password? Festive isn't working anymore.

Good luck to everyone starting/re-starting SW!

Hey Keren.... the biggest thing is to admit it and get back on with it.

So thats great - well done!!

I went to Rosemary Conley classes for years...lost a lot of weight, had a baby, lost it all, had another. Got down to my target and got onto the front cover of the magazine!! Felt fantastic. Got an evening job, and couldnt go to classes, but carried on watching it till.......Had another baby, lost MOST of it, but sadly not all of it. Did a lot of exercise at the gym, but weight slowly crept on (v.slowly - about 2lb a month, but it all adds up!). Didn't do as much exercise since around October. And then went completely bonkers over xmas (don't know why - just had a mad couple of weeks)...have put on about a stone!! Had a stone to lose anyway, so now have 2 stone to lose!!!! Ok, not as much as when I first started RC. I had kind of denied the fact that the weight was going on, but now, after xmas (lethargic and headaches from all that food)...I am very upset with myself. I have just had a look at this thread, and have realised that I am not the only one who is like this. I am admitting that I have put on weight and have gone mad over the past couple of weeks, but I am back on it now. I HATE feeling like this. I HATE my clothes not fitting and I am DETERMINED to lose that 2 stone by the summer.

Good luck everyone.....the thing is - we know we can do it. Its just getting on and doing it. I know from personal experience that the first week or so is the hardest. When you get used to not having sweet things, or chocolate, or fatty things, you don't actually fancy them anymore.

And one important thing that helped me is watching the sugar in food. I found that it was eating sugar that made me want more sugar... not necessarily in sweets, but having sugar in tea, or eating sugary cereals, or biscuits. I can follow a weight watchers points diet but without "having what I want". I know you can have a WW cookie as a treat, but it feeds my sugar addiction and I end up wanting more. I used to find the RC diets good because she never used to allow treats and a low fat diet seemed to suit me. She does allow treats in her diet now, but when I first started you weren't allowed it, and that suited me better really. Whatever diet you follow, it has to be a complete lifestyle change - I know that already, but its hard when you are ADDICTED to sugar. That's probably why I went mad over xmas... eat some, want more and more and more.....

You can lifestyle change, but you can't help the addiction. I used to smoke and I know that if I ever had one cigarette, then I would be back to smoking again. I find it hard when people say "just don't put as much in your mouth and exercise more". I agree with that, but for me, I also have to say "don't have any sugar", and sometimes, that is hard. But, I know its the only way I can stick at it.

Sorry - I have rambled a bit haven't I?!! I only wanted to say well done for getting back on track!!

    thankyou for the excellent reply!!!!

I'm going to have as many green days over the next few weeks as my metabolism will let me - I much prefer green days....chicken and mushroom pasta 'n' sauce.....mmmm....but I know it will suddenly slow down and i'll need to do a few red weeks , which I don't enjoy as much.

but for now - feeling as good as I did when I started with SW over a year ago - my club 10 has been re-set by the online graph (and is, coincidentally, the lowest weight I was this year, which is my initial goal anyway)

I think this time I need to keep looking at the book for different things to eat - there are hundreds of Healthy Extras and free foods, but I know that I got stuck in a rut of what I ate (which wouldn't have helped the metabolism)
