you are aware cerain business postage doesnt carry compensation unless tracked?

I am indeed, and as a business user this concerns me, but not my customers. I may have provided a low-cost method of allowing goods to be returned to me, however as the consumer is not party to my commercial arrangement(s) with RM, THEIR rights are not affected. As it would be the sender to pursue RM, the postal service would find it very difficult to make a commercial agreement to which the consumer was not a party, to deprive them of compensation.

For a compensation claim for untracked mail, the requirement is for a CoP from the Post Office Counter, and confirmation from the recipient that it was not delivered.

That said, I recall there ARE exclusions, Money, Jewelery are a given, but I do recall being asked at the counter; "Is it a phone?" the implication being if it was, SD was mandatory for comensation to apply. This was back in February, but have not checked the revised T&C's.

    Sorry but thats utter nonsense.
So, what do I do if my standard mail gets lost?

Otherwise, if it was delivered, can I come to my post office, just say that it was lost and ask for a compensation?

And what 'basic evidence' of the value do I need? Can it be just any receipt for any other item with a similar size?

Why don't you pop over to the Royal Mail site and try a bit of reading.

In fact this page is opened in one of my tabse for almost an hour.
    http://www.royalmail.com/customer-service/personal-customers/refunds-and-compensation/claims-process/compensation-tables/compensation-lost

And from my past experience of dealing with RM, without proofs it is impossible to squeeze anything from them except 6 stamps.
