So you stated claim compensdation from RM.
However you don't know the service used on the 'prepaid' envelope?

Assuming you did, then approach royal mail for compensation.

Instead of point scoring, tell the OP how to do it!

The company providing me with the prepaid envelope doesn't care about my phone. If I value my phone and I am not happy with the service they pay for I can either supplement it by paying extra or completely override it while using the same envelope. Personally, I would even use a box instead.

RD carries the same cover as standard mail.
so in the case of loss it makes no difference, exept to prove receipt to the recipient.

    I'm not point scoring.
The OP has already sent the item.
so its down to the to know the mthod used and whether got/retained a proof of posting.simply saying the had to use RD/SD for compensation isnt true.

For a standard mail it is impossible to prove that the item was lost by RM.
In this case the recipient was far more likely to have lost/stolen the phone. With a proof of delivery the OP can sue them.

    why does it matter?
    The cover is the same.
The OP hasnt used a tracked service of any kind.
So an RM claim is their only option if its open to them.

In reality there is no any cover for a standard mail as it is impossible to prove that it wasn't delivered.
