The PPC, then a debt collector and then a solicitor will send you a series of letters. The debt collector and solicitor are usually also the PPC, but using different headed paper. These letters will threaten you with every kind of financial and legal unpleasantness imaginable to intimidate you into paying.
this is the bit im worried about, and how long does this normaly go on for?? but if debt collector and solicitor are just UKPC then i have nothing to worry about. its the thought of having a big stocky biker knocking at my door asking for money that worries me! haha:p
So long story short, just ignore EVERYTHING and they will give up...
BTW, Thanks for your rapid replies0 -
You can always look through the "sticky" thread with all their letters and frighten yourself with them before they arrive. You can then play "SNAP!" with them and also see if you can collect a full set, like collector's cards.
The timescale is tricky to forecast. It seems to depend on whether they can afford the toner, envelopes and postage.
Sending a big stocky biker wouldn't be cost effective. And some might not regard him as a disincentive.

I can understand your apprehension, the letters are written in a way so as to intimidate you and coerce you into paying.
One thing you wont have to worry about is anyone turning up at your door from a debt collectors - in all these 1000's of cases on here I have never known or heard about a debt collector comeing calling for a private parking ticket. They say they will but never do. Ive even had the threats from debt collectors doing a doorstep collection, and they never turned up.You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
the big stocky biker you refer to has strangely been jailed for benefit fraud, so no worries there,,scare tactics is a major weapon for these scammers, so ignore, thats it, and they will eventually go away, nothing can/will be done to you as a result of this,,why, you say??? because its a SCAM we all say and agree, now relax, there you go , jobs a belter isnt it.0

I also got one of these ridiculous parking 'charges' at Boucher Crescent in Belfast in June and was very stressed out to begin with. While I hadn't parked in a proper bay, I was not causing any sort of obstruction and only noticed the parking restriction signs after seeing the ticket on my windscreen. The car park was really busy that day and there were lots of cars and pedestrians so i don't see how I could have been expected to see the signs which were well out of my range of vision.
I didn't sleep much the first night debating whether or not I should pay it just to avoid the grief. I get stressed very easily and tend to let things prey on my mind, so I thought it might be worth paying 60 quid for the peace of mind. But after reading a few of the posts on the forum, I thought I'd stand up for myself for once. Two months passed and I had heard nothing, but yesterday the first letter arrived in the post. So last night was yet another sleepless night, wondering can I deal with the stress of 6 months of threatening letters. But now I just feel angry. If these charges are not enforceable and are causing people so much stress is there nothing we can do about them?
The DVLNI is obviously giving peoples details out to these companies who have no legal right to have that information as far as I can see, so I'm going to try and find out which NI department is responsible for that and write to them and the DVLNI itself asking what evidence they were given that I had committed some offence.
At the time I tried to find out who actually owned the car park, but had no joy in even finding out who managed the retail park. So if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great. As a last resort I might write to the managers of the shops where I spend £100+ that day to complain to them and let them know I won't be back and the reason why. In fact I was so annoyed I ended up returning most of the items I bought that day and have not been back to that retail park since (except to drive round with my camera on the dashboard to show where I was parked and confirm that i was not causing an obstruction in case this ever goes to court).
One positive thing I have seen on these forums was a link to an article in the Belfast telegraph about a retail park in Derry who withdrew UKPC after enough people complained about their ridiculous parking policies. So maybe there is hope if enough people complain. if only I could find the right people to complain to.
And thanks to everyone who hasn't paid and has posted about their experience. It's the main reason I haven't given up and paid the scammers!0 -
Treat it as an opportunity for personal growth Kalavo! Stand up these jerks on this occasion and you will find out how, really, a few nasty letters can't hurt you. Then you will be stronger and emboldened the next time someone tries to rip you off.

With retail parks, a "scattergun" approach is sometimes called for. Write to all the shops' CEOs. Their names and addresses are usually on the relevant shops' websites. With luck, at least one will either be the actual owner or, more likely, advise you who is. It's usually a pension firm, or similar.
