Bob/Mr Wang/sb, you posted on the wrong thread! This one is from a poster asking for advice about his trip to Dublin (insert any city you wish in place of Dublin)
The thread on 'overrated' cities can/cannot be found elsewhere on here.0 -

As the poster had not yet booked the trip there is nothing wrong from people who have been to Dublin offering their advice for him to think about an alternative destination. The OP has never been before so why should the only comments allowed be how wonderful a place it is?0 -
hi all
i want to book a weekend city break to dublin, any tips, advice on where to stay and go, restaurants, hotels??
not budget or 5 star somewhere in the middle.
thanks in advance
Dont know if it's been mentioned, but Kilmainham Gaol is well worth a visit. Friends of mine loved it when they last visited Dublin, even their 9 year old thought it was great .I've been as well but ages ago. It's a short bus ride from the city Center , 78 or 79 bus from memory.
Also, if you use Groupon, or any of the other similar sites, subscribe to the Dublin site, and have a look at their deals. Last time we were there in March, we had a fantastic meal for two of us for 30 euros with a glass of decent wine. We also bought tickets for a Liffey cruise which was really good value.
Just some thoughts , if you have decided to go, and are trying to keep within a reasonable budget.
we actually booked flights last night for three nights in August.
Good luck with whatever you decide. Dublin is a fab city. you'll have a great time if you go.0 -

Spot the big clue?
I have looked several times and fail to read the words, 'how do you rate Dublin as a destination?' Let me know if I'm wrong.0 -
Try the ripley court hotel, its basically beside the train station, so very handy, and just a short walk from O'Connell street - it is very central and very friendly.
I though it was a great hotel - and we got bargain - think we stayed one night, and it was only about €50.
O'Sheas is on the same street, I have never stayed in it, but it has a good reputation for somewhere clean and comfortable to sleep (But it is also a bar so may be noisy - not sure)
Dublin is a lovely city and with the Euro crashing, it is slowly getting cheaper for UK visitors.
If you are there during the All-Ireland championship season and get a chance, you could go to a game in Croke Park, atmosphere is great (depending on the game - if its quarter final onwards, they are brilliant, before that depends who is playing really.)Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -
I've stayed in the Generator Hostel, very impressive I thought, exceedingly clean and €10 per night. Also Jurys is fine too. For cheap eats, the all day menu at Captain Americas at top of Grafton St is great, plentiful dinner and a bottle of beer for €10 too!
Phoenix Park lovely, Stephens Green is nice too.
Others mightn't think much of it, but I've always enjoyed it, full of nice people.0 -

What's with the MASSIVE words?
You really need to stop being offended by other peoples insults.
I bet you kicked your dog when you read what Totallybored had wrote. Who actually had a very good point.

The massive word was to point out the bloody obvious that you failed to see! No dog but I just need to get to understand how some folk can't help but be silly.0 -

Look Norm you are going to give yourself cataracts. Relax a little and embrace the fact Dublin is overrated. I note you couldn't find anywhere more over rated and that's fine, I expected it because there is no where else.
I am (as others are) simply pointing out that the only decent thing in Dublin is the airport since it is your port out of there.
This is an MSE site, and Dublin is perhaps the most un-MSE city in this part of the world.
It's not a personal insult - Simply an opinion. I really don't know how I can be any clearer than that.0
