Hi
Someone suggested supper of 8oz meat per person? Yikes. I can afford it and regard half that ample. 2oz decent mince makes a quite a good mince sauce to flavour a root vegetable stew.
8oz was the wartime ration for one person per week and that included ALL meat, from stewing to bacon butties (not that you could get bacon at that time though).
I use 1lb of meat per evening meal. For 4, that works out about right, everyone gets ample and there's enough to freeze for another day. I buy 30 Lbs of assorted meat a month and split it and freeze until needed. Dont buy from the supermarket, buy from the meat vans and markets, your money will go a lot further.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

Thanks for the luck everyone, I think the interview went ok. Got a good feeling about this one! Can only wait and see now.
Also, got an email from British Gas to say they are giving us 2000 nectar card points just for signing up to manage the account online!! Isn't that about £10 in food shopping?! Ooh hope so. Found out you can also get 1500 by signing up to the DD scheme. Worth it if you are with them anyway.
Didn't spend a penny today aside from dry cleaning so that's good but also haven't gotten far with list as interview took forever!
PollyOnAMission - we've got one medium sized dog (about 14kg) and feed him the "over engineered sciency food"We've always fed a complete dry food but we should switch to something cheaper and I agree about the natural food aspect. Do you cook each day for your dogs? Will check out that link and see what I can come up with.

Mobile tariff is supposedly only about £40 but always seem to end up way over. I need to look into this.
Are you in contract or out?
If out of your contract, you can get a giffgaff SIM.
Ten quid a month PAYG gets you unlimited SMS, unlimited data and 250 minutes:money:

Aaaw thanks guys
loving the smiley, where do you find them? (don't seem to be on my list).
If I were to get this job (big fat if) then our plan would be to try and snowball with any extra £ from paying off mbna/saving on soa. I'm not sure how realistic a plan this is but a plan nonetheless!!
God, becoming a mse is a full time job in itself :rotfl: How do you all have the time?![STRIKE]£49,129[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£[/STRIKE][STRIKE]43,012 [/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£42,209[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£40,823[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£39,866[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£25,960[/STRIKE]£21,338 _party_

If I were in your position and IF I were to get the job I would use what left over redundancy you have and save a bit for a rainy day, maybe pay off any utility/CT arrears, pay off the family loan and then throw the rest at the highest apr debt. I'm sure you could save LOADS in interest then
Even if you do get the job its worth completely changing your lifestyle. Sell things you don't need, visit the old style board and learn how to cook, try and get the lowest price for utilities The list is endless really. You have had some great advice on this thread. :T
PS Hope you get the job!
Forgot to add - CUT UP THE REMAINING CC'S!!!In debt no more!0 -
Thanks Loubie_Lou
You're right, even with a job there will need to be some serious belt tightening if we are to repay this debt once and for all and not just keep servicing the interest!!
No job news yet but I will post if I hear anythingVisited the job centre today to sign on so thats an extra £300p.m and they are hopeful of being able to backdate my claim to when I finished work. Quite impressed myself by walking an hour there and back instead of jumping in a taxi as I normally would :Aat least this way I think I can make it a no spends day.Oh and does anyone know where I can find a good snowball calculator/tracker thingy that can cope with additional payments and not just monthly ones? I'd love to know our potential debt free date even if it is in a gazillion years from now :laugh:Keep going everyone![STRIKE]£49,129[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£[/STRIKE][STRIKE]43,012 [/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£42,209[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£40,823[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£39,866[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£25,960[/STRIKE]£21,338 _party_

I got glasses from speccyfoureyes online when I was made redundant and they have been great. I am still wearing them and have had no problems. I was very dubious too but they were fine. I did get an optician to adjust the fit (so I went for nose pads) so I could get them comfy on the nose and ears.
We used savings so I could look for a professional role, so if you can make enough savings to pay your way for a while then you can do that. I knew if it came down to running out of cash I'd look at other kinds of jobs.

But if you get job seekers allowance you'll get free glasses anyway with your Nhs spectacle prescription.
