Hello.
Just wanted to say i feed Harringtons to my large German Shepherd 45kg, not overweight just big boned dog.
A sack 15kg was £18.00 in A$da this week and it lasts him 6wks.
He use to get JamesWB untill we all had to cut back when i was made redundant in 2007, he is happy and healthy and i can highly recommend it.
It took me a long time before i changed his food to what i thought an inferior product and i imagined all sorts of ills befalling my precious friend on what i considered this new cheap rubbish. If only i had known years ago i could have saved a fortune, Max is 6 and 1/2now and does really well on this food.
Hope this helps and well done for all the changes you are making it took me a lot longer.

Hey thanks Magpie Dawn. That really does help
You're not the first to recommend that one. We too are feeding JWB but at around £50 a bag its got to go!! The same as you I dote on my dog and would hate to think I was feeding him a poor quality food that didn't give him what he needed. Thought I'd done well finding JWB for £75 for x2 18kg bags but Harrington's still cheaper by the sounds of it.
Saying that I estimated a bag a month and he can't possibly be eating that if your 45kg dog has a bag every 6 weeks. He's a third of the size :rotfl: Better re-do my calculations!!

hello
Just read through your thread, well done on all the cutbacks and all the best for getting a job asap
regarding the dog food.... i'm also a raw feeder (i have two german shepherds) and i buy their food from the abbotoir. it costs £3.50 for a 11lb bag of raw meat, to this i add in pasta, rice, veg, chicken wings, raw eggs and fish
basically i buy 4 bags of the abbotoir meat every 2 weeks and spend an hour seperating it and cooking up the rice or pasta, and putting it into smaller daily bags which i then put in the freezer.
all the extras (rice etc) is smartprice or reduced to clear (the dogs dont care that its not branded!)
changing to raw was the best thing i have ever done - financially and also their health/teeth/coat etc have improved.
if you have an abbotoir nearby its worth looking into

I have two medium sized (16kg each) dogs and it costs me under £1 per day to feed both of them. I buy wormers online from vetUK.co.uk, search for the cheapest deal on pet insurance.
I am a bit of a dog diet geek and in no way advocate cheap and nasty dog foods. They are not good for your dog and are often a false economy because you need to feed more due to being less nutritious. Likewise a lot of the over-engineered sciency foods are a waste of money! The best thing you can feed your dog is the most natural food possible. For me that means a raw diet (raw meat, bones, offal) which can also be the cheapest way to feed, but it's not for everyone. There are loads of good complete foods, some more expensive than others, but I remember the Pets at Home Brand Wainwrights was really good for the price (no artificial additives etc). I think it cost me about £1.50 per day to feed both dogs on this. Try this site for advice if you are thinking of changing food http://www.whichdogfood.co.uk/
It sounds like you are doing really well having fallen on some tough times. Well done you, keep it up!0 -
Squidgy have followed your thread...don't mean to be harsh but £35.48 on presents!!!! - I suspect you are yet to have your LBM as this is money you really can't afford.LBM Nov 10 owing £34,043 - (DMP with Stepchange)

Ooh Plum, she is trying, Rome wsn't built in a day and all that. I think with presents it depends on who they're for and what the expectation is. Am thinking this is prob a niece or nephew?
But now might be the time to say that you will be cutting back at Christmas. Typing this has benn another 'doh' moment for me as my parents and siblings expect ridiculous amounts to be spent on them. I shall also be having a word!Make £2020 in 2020 £178.81/£2020

That's harsh. For all we know SCP could've previously spent £60-100 on presents before LBM everyone is different and has different min and max spends for things like groceries/presents/entertainment...........
I know from our point of view an £70 per week shop is bl@@dy good where some others would :eek:at that. Seeing as we used to spend £600+ every month on shopping......
As i said everyone's different and to say SCP 'hasn't had her LBM yet' is downright rudeness seeing how hard she's been trying.

You lot are so lovely(wanted to multi quote but couldn't see an obvious way to do it).
Yes pressies were for our little newphews and they went down a storm! I appreciate that £35 is still alot of money when you can't afford it (and I definitely would've spent more before) but no more birthdays until September now. Must admit that side of the family know nothing of our debts and would be horrified. How do you even begin to tell someone you owe £50k? (...oh yeh...on an online forum :rotfl:)
Have been walking in the country today so very little spent...50p on a slice of cake at a fete thingy and a free dinner with the family. Oh and £2.42 on bottled water and fruit en route. Was annoyed about that as should've just taken it from home but didn't even cross my mind. Must plan better.
Poured with rain and so fingers crossed it's ok for the car boot sale in the morning. Have been on the car boot thread for some tips and it's made me quite nervous! Who knows, I might even make my £35 back?
Am going to try and re-do SOA tomorrow too. Did anyone have any ideas re timing of JSA payments?
