Can anyone tell me if there is an MP3 player out there that can also be easily connected up to a normal car stereo system and played through that rather than earphones?
We have a connector kit that does this with our Personal CD Player through the car's tape deck (yes we still have this type of stereo in our car!)
If not, information about a portable DAB radio that will connect this way would be equally appreciated (we are addicted to BBC 6Music).
Now an MP3 Player with DAB that we could also connect up to the car.......:EasterBun

Your connector kit that works through the tape deck will work with any mp3 player - just plug it in to the mp3 player's headphone jack and away you go!
I have one of the pen-drive sized players and it fits much more neatly on the dashboard than a CD player, never skips, and you don't need to hook it up to the lighter socker for power because it lasts ages on one AAA battery.0 -

I use this method and it works great. I've just changed cars toa VW Golf, and have taken my old CD/MP3 player out of my old car. I was planning to fit this into the golf, but a few probs
1. will need wiring and facia adapter (c£30 inc).
2. Will have a big ugly blanking plate (unless I retained the old CD in dash player, and did not use it).
3. Still have to transfer my mp3's to CD (doesn't take long) and play them in the player.
I've just got a little Ipod shuffle (£50 from the states when I was there recently). I use the cassette adapter and the sound is surprisingly good (at least as good as my Sony CD/MP3 player). I just connect it via the headphone, and then when I leave the car plug it back into my headphones and off I go ;-)
I will now sell my Song MP3/CD player and perhaps invest in some upgraded speakers for my car!0 -

Thanks for this information, it is a definite go-er then!
Only thing is I know nothing about Pen-Drive Players!!
Could you recommend a make/mb size or current offer? Do they come with software or are they compatible with Windows Media or Real, MusicMatch etc? I assume these are the type that plug directly into your USB socket?
Sorry to be so full of questions!:EasterBun

This has been quite interesting reading through some of the posts here.
I have another query - hopefully someone can help. I tend to take a lot of videos and photos on my travels and my 1gb memory card gets filled up very quickly hence I always thought the IPOD video 60gb is the only one in the market that you can view these files on as well as music. Is there something out in the market that could be a direct replacement.
I have heard iRiver is very good but don't believe they have these facilities. Hope someone can help.0 -

The cheaper 30Gb iPod also lets you view video, while the Nano supports photos.0 -

i just bought exactly what you're looking for. the archos av500 60gb. there's another thread on it somewhere. it's £299 in currys. also same price online, so can use a voucher perhaps to get more money off plus pay on your egg card ifyou have one for another 5% cashback.
has been so great over christmas. i fill up my memory card, plug my camera into it and download the photos onto it. then i can delete my card and start again. it has a 4 inch screen so you can tell if your pics are in focus (allows zoom too). can also plug into the telly to record tv, or playback films or your photos. plus comes with a remote control.
its my new best friend. and an absolute bargain. :-)
i hope that helps.0 -
My husband is getting a refund from Boots today after the sad demise of his archos 20gb. The screen broke- not sure how. It was a fantastic bargain from this site before Christmas.
Anyway, he really wants at least 20gb, but is nervous about the screen on another breaking and doesn't want video features. This thread is all a bit out of date now- has anyone seen anything similar? Or maybe an ipod from the education site as he is a teacher...0
