  • I'm looking to get my partner a 60gb photo ipod - does anyone know the cheapest price they can find? I was going to use the £20 off voucher and get it from Currys/Dixons but it's saying that due to high demand it's out of stock.

I just spent quite a while researching which ipod-type device to buy, and in the end bought a Creative Zen Xtra 40Gb off Ebay for around $170 US + $20ish shipping. That works out at around 100 quid for a 40Gb ipod device. From what I've read the Apple Ipod doesn't have the best sound quality, and is certainly over priced.

Hi, I've seen a creative zen micro here: http://www.totalpda.co.uk/Creative-Zen-Micro-5GB-Silver.aspx for £124 including shipping, I was very interested in it until I read a load of reviews I found on google saying it has one major fault, that the inline jack kept breaking and the sound quality would take a nose dive or stop altogther, also that it would take an age to download music etc. I really fancied one of these for my daughter but after seeing so many complaints on the CREATIVE web site I am starting to have my doubts, its a lot of money to throw away if it all goes pear shaped and its for her birthday! So I wondered if you could let us know how yours is going, apparently they can go wrong after about 2 weeks use it would be great if someone could reinstal my faith in this product as I like it so much more than the I-Pod. Thanks

pixmania has got some very bad reviews, it sounds worse than some of the complaints about ebuyer. Add to the fact it is based in a foreign country...

https://www.7dayshop.com are doing the 60Gb ipod photo for £269 + £3.95 P&P. This is definitely the cheapest around as far as I can see. However, there's no information on whether it's the latest edition or not but then I'm not sure what the differences are...

Getting tired of looking now :(

I think I might just go to John Lewis's.

I know that its been mentioned before, but if you want an IPod Photo then you could do worse than go to Boots.com where the old 40GB version is reduced to £269. When combined with a 10% voucher and the current triple points promotion (expires 3 May), the effective price is around £210. The device is a fraction thicker than the 30GB version which has replaced it, but the advantage of buying this model is that the box comes with a few items which are now classed as extras e.g. a dock, carry case and an AV cable.

Put it this way, I hope I am right as I currently have one on order.

Yep I can confirm that it does come with the extras, all 40GB photo models do. This model was discontinued in favour of the new 30GB and 60GB models that don't come with the extras.
