Do you any yarn in your stash that you could substitiute in? Same width/weight and most yarns substitute quite well. As long as the gauge works (and if not, well use proportion to alter the pattern slightly). I love the unexpected effects from varying yarns and patterns :)

:T well done for all your decluttering! I'm really impressed by everyone who manages to keep this going *hugs*

I don't think that I do have enough of the right sort of yarn. I have lots of weird yarn, and lots of double knitting, but this is aran. It is also in more than one colour and I definitely don't have enough of little bear's favourite colour. I am sitting on my hands for now. One of the last things I actually finished was a lovely little sweater for him in a rib design. It looked really good, fitted fine - he never wore it. Mainly because at one point little bear just refused to wear sweaters. He will wear them now.

    Byatt :o  :D

Diving in while my log in works. No idea what the problem is.

Trying to work out what to do next. I think it is 'clear out the fridge' day. What joy!

    hugs to all

Thank you, ladies.....you have made me feel a bit better about the 1970s copy of "The Joy of S*x" that's on the high shelf in my wardrobe, right at the back, which I'm too embarrassed to get rid of :rotfl::rotfl:

Ivy, we had a copy of that book too, have no idea what I did with it in the end! :D

I have had problems with MSE log in, when I can't get in with FF I use IE, but I've heard IE is a problem for many. It's so annoying.

Reminds me of a time when I was between houses, my elderly maiden aunt offered to store my book collection in a spare room whilst I found somewhere new to live.
Whilst my books were stored there she was having an inventory of her own book collection made, (She had been an academic and was donating a large collection of rare books to various universities)

When she looked through the list she noticed that they had mistakenly included a box of my books including: The Kerrang guide to Heavy Metal and The Illustrated Karma Sutra

Luckily my aunt thought it absolutely hilarious. :rotfl:

    woohoo! login worked again.

I have decided - I will get the yarn for the cutest sweater for little bear (get the cute while I can, he's five and it will not be for much longer!). However it is going to sit in front of me until I finish the blanket I am knitting now, the sweater I started most recently, sewn up the sweater that has been half done for years and finished off the slip over that only needs for the armhole to be picked up and knitted and then one seam sewn. That list will take perhaps a fortnight, if I focus. It should take less than a month at worst.

However, big however, how many recognise this dilemma? I want to get the yarn from Deramores. They are inexpensive, great service and an amazing selection. I even have a code for 10% off. And they do free delivery for orders over £25. The yarn for the sweater will not be anywhere near that. Even if I add in the 20mm circular needle I will be using for the following project (yarn already here) I will not make £25. I swear it is part of the hoarder mentality that almost forces you to take up the deal. After all - free delivery! But I don't want anything else (I definitely don't need it!). I'll wait until I am on the site and see how I do.

I have never had problems with throwing things out that gave Byatt such a problem. However I do have problems buying things in bulk. For example, I prefer stockings to tights. They are, or were, slightly less expensive if you bought the normal ones in Woolworths (dating myself - and I usually wear socks these days :o) They are also good if you buy in a large batch, as if a run goes in one stocking, the spare is just saved until until another run happens and matched with the other spare. And I prefer black. The expression on the cashier's face when I bought twenty pairs of black stockings was memorable. And don't get me started on the day I found a superb deal in Boots on condoms. Though I think the cashier was more embarrassed that day than I was. I don't get embarrassed very easily. It is just as well.

JoJo - when malevolent cat was still with us, she liked to sleep in an old crisp box, the sort with the hold punched out of one side. She would slink into that, nap and occasionally glare out. One day she was just too fat - she had been stealing cooking oil - and she could get in, but she couldn't get out. She was stuck with the dratted thing around her hips. She actually reversed back and then tore bits of the entrance off with her teeth, all the while glaring at me as if to dare me to say anything. I didn't say anything, I couldn't, I was laughing too much.

I think that's a great idea, use the push of wanting to knit the sweater as motivation to finish your wip. If you're buying yarn for something you're going to do now that's very different to buying something just because you want to buy something (or because you get free delivery).

Unless the delivery charge is huge just buy what you need, if you're on;y saving a few quid with the free delivery but spending money you don't need to then you're not making a saving at all.

I do recognise the dilemma though and these pays I try to treat shopping like I treat getting rid of things - stay task focused and don't wander into "what if".

    Right - motivational pics:

Not a fantastic difference, and only one bag of rubbish went out from it, but it had been in the "before" state for 5 weeks, ever since I closed the shop and had been left like that because it's out of the way. Give me another 5-6 weeks and the saleable things, which should be stored in my shed, will be. And yes, I do know that not many people have 7 inkle looms in their porch, (not to mention the two continuous-weave looms whose pieces are stored up against the garden door, which isn't in use as DH thinks it's a security risk) but they're not for personal use, I not only can, but DO, sell them!

I can't believe how much more energy I suddenly have... :)

PS, yes, I do know what's in the trunks, & it's all been referred to recently - winter bedding in one, & dressing up clothes & toys for visiting nephews & nieces in another, Guild paperwork in the big tub, fleece & fibre for my own use in the wicker trunk. There are also several sewing machines to go to Tools With A Mission, and a shelf full of parts to go to their local SM mechanic next time their rep does a pickup from me.
