I have long hair too, but seem to keep it up more and more often. I have thyroid problems, and curly hair, so only ever tease it our with fingers, comb or brush, in the bath, where i get handfuls of it sometimes, like a rat sized amount. Its horrid.:o. It also gums up the cat and dog head of the vacuum, and i spend abput twenty monutes a week with the vacuum head and a pair of scissors cutting it free from hair.
I understand. We have a haircatcher over the plughole in the sink, for this reason. I learnt my lesson there, after me and my sister managed to completely block the pipes coming from the bath in our parents house years ago!Whoops!
I too, tease out the tangles in my hair when I've applied conditioner, and find lots comes out that way, but my hairbrush also gets full regularly (and cleaned regularly), and STILL some of my hairs manage to find their way to the floor! OH jokes that I should be bald with the amount of hair that falls out every day.
We bought a Dyson animal handheld vaccum to try and help with the hair on the rug problem. My hairs are too long for it, and broke the main attachment after a month of two. I tried removing all the hairs, but I couldn't get at them all. So we use the old, big, hoover for the rugs now, and I use the handheld for those little corners of hair and dush (using a non bristled attachment).
It's such a PITA!!! :rotfl:February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
Hi all,
I have offered our piano on Freecycle but no interest so far - to be fair it needs a lot of work so I can understand why there are no takers but I cannot bear the thought of getting rid, it was made in 1907 and it seems so callous to think about burning / landfill but we are never going to get round to fixing so re-homing seemed to be the option but apparently not
There must be a college somewhere that trains people to repair pianos, who'd take it off your hands for free (or, alternatively, repair it for you cheaply). Google turned up Lincoln College, but there must be others if that's too far away from you. You can always phone Lincoln and ask (their faculty would know if there is anywhere closer to you, since it's such a specialised course)."Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.' "
It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it - that’s what gets results!

No, fur happens, doesn't matter how much you clean it'll find a place to stay.0 -
With regards to hair on the carpets and rugs - my partner and I both have long hair, we also have pets, so you can imagine a normal cheapy vaccuum doesn't work at all well. I sweep well before I vaccuum, using a hard bristled yard broom, which picks up the worst of the hair and fur. The bins end up with a nest of fuzz afterwards! I then just need to do a quick hoovering to get the other bits of dirt which I have swept into a pile and the corners which are missed with the broom.
I listed a whole load of clothes, boots and games yesterday on ebay. I do hope they sell, as they were the ones we felt were a bit too decent to just give away...Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -

I was so discouraged this morning I just wanted to give up & run away to sea again. We've had 9 people in the house all weekend as it was the twins' 20th birthday & everyone came home, plus the lodger & the semi-resident girlfriend - lovely, but exhausting, and the place looked like a bomb had hit it when I got up this morning - very discouraging! But Eldest, who doesn't come home very often, did say that it mostly looks very much better, which cheered me up a bit.
Then I got to thinking that over the weekend, one large object sold through Ebay & got collected; one more will be picked up later this week. Two biggish items went via Freecycle, plus two big boxes of old magazines & a load of decent car boot stuff as I don't know when my next opportunity to do a boot sale will occur. I've taken another bootload of fabric, thread & buttons to go out to India, and rags & cardboard to the Tip. Mind you, I came back with a bin bag full of yarn that they'd saved for me! But I can cycle that through very quickly, via a friend whose knitting group make blankets for the elderly & homeless people. DS3's bedroom was so de-cluttered that DS1 was able to sleep on the campbed in there too, as the lodger has his old room.
The garage is emptying out fast; now I need to sort the conservatory (some of which can go into the newly-created space in the garage!) and last but not least, reduce the stuff in my shed just the really worthwhile stuff; things which will sell quickly, and things which will genuinely be used up quickly in my work. I reckon I've probably passed the halfway mark, but also that I've picked the low-hanging fruit; the next bits will be harder because I'll have to be totally ruthless...Angie - GC May 25: £74.30/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 21/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Has your mum had any medical help?

Log in working intermittently. Suspect our computer is sulking.
Anyone else think that one sign of hoarding is the belief that better storage will be the solution?
Also, compost bin allegedly going tomorrow - just found out that it is full of ants. That will be fun.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
Thrift, you have done a huge amount! Well done. I have given up on the boot sales too and only did one this year.
Sybil, I always believe better storage will be the solution!! I'm finding it isn't. For the most part.
Some good news, I am changing from a prepayment to a credit meter, I am absolutely over the moon...BUT, they come next week to change the meter. I did agree to this, but really, really need to do something with the living space now.0 -

Are you with Virgin? I'm having awful problems and finally today got them to admit its because they are renewing all the cables for the new superspeed broadband. Apparently work is scheduled until the 16th in my area but funnily enough since I got cross this morning I've had uninterrupted internet access for the first time in a couple of weeks!0
