Is far too humongous a task to even get the house 'sorted' enough for Christmas at the moment.

I'm overwhelmed again and ignoring things!

Maybe setting yourself a target of Christmas for being 'sorted' is the main reason for feeling overwhelmed? There is enough pressure at this time of year from family, trying to see everyone, getting gifts, card writing, wrapping presents etc. Maybe your perfectionism is stifling you?

Maybe you could reset your mindset - this could be 'I'm getting the pile of paperwork in the lounge cleared because I'm worth it' not because it's christmas. Baby steps and little and often is helping me at the moment.

You can do this - you can't eat a whole elephant at once, your richard is an elephant, bite size pieces are what's needed.

Hope that helps and I hope I've not come across as preachy x

    :) Good morning campers.

Have woken to a light dusting of what may be snow or some other precipitation which just happened to freeze overnight. Think of sifted-flour levels.

I've chucked my YaxTrax in my workbag just in case. Keeping them in a transparent cosmetic pouch from the 99p store. Didn't want the body lotion etc that came in it but thought 99p was well worth it for the sturdy zippered pouch so c.s.'d them immediately. No point in keeping them around here until they're rancid and useless.

Today I shall take a bag of Tetra thingies up to one of the few places in town where there is a dedicated recycling bin for them as my LA doesn't want them in the general household recycling. There's only 4 of them but they're a little niggle which I shall be pleased to see that back of and a walk after work will be a bit of good exercise.

Of course, I shan't be going into any of the c.s. en route.

Baby steps, baby steps Sjprmc01. It's easier to to lots of little things that one huge thing......move ten things from a huge pile ten times ad it's gone. Even quicker if after ten thiongs you think you can bear to cope with two or three things more! I live my life by baby steps when I am functional, and by heck, sometimes I can manage a toddle across a room, but some days I could baby step a marathon. :)

Today, without thinking...the cat tunnel which sprung a wire.....BIN. We have another, better cat tunnel, so no need to try and repair or !!!!!!!ise or whatever.
  • I know what you mean about buying sjp - it's that time of year beseiged by advertisers telling us we should treat ourselves when they know full well we need to buy for others so will buy twice

I sold an item today for 440x what I paid for it - so am losing sight of the fact that I am trying to sell things to pay the bills, and feel wow! I'm rich and am in danger of spending it all on uneccessaries - must remember most of my investments are only getting 1%!
Have limited it to 2 perennial plants so far.

My decluttering mindset seems to be finding its way onto my gift choices for others, mainly buying limited shelflife/self-destruct or temporary presents like plants, chocs and items that will get used up like room sprays

I won't get everything I want to listed online auction in time for the Christmas surge so have decided to photograph the other things, wrap well in bubblewrap and box them away, having written out their listing on my spreadsheet - then when an attractice listing deal comes along, or Mother's Day or Easter, i will just have to pop them online

That's exactly what I did this morning, we have a load of recycling bins only a 5 minute walk up the road.

AND I didn't go in the CS either, even though there was a special one in the community centre today!

  • I receive a thought for the day type thing - today's seemed worth sharing here: the hardest lesson in life is letting go. Whether it's, anger, love, loss or betrayal. Change is never easy, we can try to hold on or to let go.

Any ideas for the best use for a double bed-size strong plastic bag - don't say let it go, I am bravely letting go of the old bed frame which would in fact make two awesome doggy gates or an industrial size herb drying rack

OOh, I'm just the same BM, I just can't buy someone potentially useless clutter anymore. All stuff is either edible or to be used and passed on(i.e. a small book and dvd to family members I know watch/read and pass onelsewhere straight away)

:rotfl: and we all need an industrial size herb drying rack...

Re the plastic bag - they can be useful for wrapping rabbit hutches in cold weather (mine went on freecycle for that use)
or warming the ground pre planting early veg. That's my contribution of ideas:D

I use a big plastic bag like this for laying on the ground if I do a car boot sale, to put my stuff on. It's also handy to cover up the sale table if it starts to rain, keeps the goods dry, but people can still get an idea of what you're selling.

Or how about using it to line the boot of your car, to keep it clean? Or protecting carpets when you're decorating?

Can you tell I would find it VERY hard to part with that bit of plastic? :)

  • Furthermore, if anyone read Credo in the Saturday Times last week, Roderick Strange was quoting John the Baptist, saying that those who have two coats should share with those who have none and I agree that we should think about this, especially in Advent.

Oh my goodness! This has spoken SO loudly to me! Thank you thank you thank you. I have been ebaying slowly but also have BAGS of kipple hanging around that I MIGHT or MIGHT NOT ebay. I made £90 selling 6 items last week but then it cost me £23 postage and actually I really like the idea of donating to those less forunate via the CS this Christmas. A double edge sword. A clear house/head for me and some decent cheapish threads for someone else. We also have a "clothesbank" like food bank that Ive been reading about so may look into donating there- reaching people more in dire need and they want toys and kids stuff etc
Patchwork Quilt- I cant thank you enough for that post x

I'm just wondering if anybody has seen 'Storage Hoarders' on ITV. It's currently on between 2pm - 3pm weekdays. I've been recording it to watch later.

The programme features people who are keeping STUFF in storage units. They have to go through their things, and have three hours  to sort everything into Keep, Skip, Sell or Charity.

One thing that has struck me is that these hoarders seem to have very uncluttered homes, judging by the backdrop to the interviews. Everything must be in the storage units:rotfl:

It's quite an interesting programme, and deals with familiar themes of letting go of the past .

At the end they tot up how much they have made from the sales, and how much they'll save by getting rid of the storage units.
