  • Why?

Now might be a good time to sell a bike, people looking for things to take up in the NY to get fit and save money.
Because I can't face the stress of the letting go of the aspiration - I was just about there, when my DH asked me not to sell - I couldn't deal with his aspirational hopes and dreams as well as mine (his bike remains in the attic, unused in 10 years).

I need easier battles to fight decluttering wise at the mo and there are plenty of them:)

I'll try tackling it again in the spring, when people think, ooh, summer, wouldn't cycling along the sea front be wonderful:D

Dont be gone long,.. will really miss your posts, you have been such a support particularly during my recent meltdown.Everyone else too ,i did post a thank you but lost a long reply and felt too overwhelmed to re do it.

Am making progress but am lurking until i have more positives to tell ..still feel like i am drowning with this and other life issues
  • A bit like planting trees to offset trip abroad by plane, I have done some offsetting of weight of bike in attic by tackling the longterm hord of picture frames, many with pictures, sitting in a box in the attic. The empty frames come under the 'oh but they might be useful one day...'
Halved them from 22 to 11 and got rid of a large one with broken glass belonging to DH, with his reluctant but eventual permission:j. Decent ones in large bag for CS.
Of the 11 remaining, I have brought 3 downstairs to hang up. Must make sure I do this by end of evening.

  • PQ - no don't warn her, warn HIM - he will put the relationship at risk and its not worth it for "stuff" so he should hire a Yellow Box Store instead

This is such sound advice Blossomhill, thank you. I've been worried about it for some time! Of course you are right.

Wow, Imataloss, great progress - well done :T
I know the clutter is weighing me down and making lots of thigns in life harder, more frustrating and time consuming and DH doesn't like it either. I plan to set myself small goals to begin with. Haven't read many posts so will start from today when I get time. Don't want to spend ages on here as an excuse to not declutter though so must get the balance right.

    sq:)

Hi Savingqueen, I think the key here is that you have recognised how your clutter is affecting your life, now you can work through it :)

    Thanks katep23

I am quite pleased at what I have managed to acheive today. Now have a clear workstation and 3 drawers which are now tidy. I found lots of new pens, pencils and highlighters I didn`t know I had. These are now in a pencil case, I also found in one of the drawers. Also have 5 boxes of business cards, I never go out often enough to use them.
Have made a start on the shreading and will continue to do some daily until it`s all gone.

DH ventured into the loft again. Found a box full of drinking glasses. The newspapers they were wrapped in were from 1985. That was the year we moved into the house. We have not used them for 25 years so we are definitely not going to use them now, apart from 2 liquer glasses which are very nice and will now go into the cupboard.
He also found a Waterford Crystal bowl he won in a golf competition many years ago. It`s beautiful and has never seen light of day. It`s now sitting in pride of place on living room windowsill.
Also spare room is looking slightly better thanks to his efforts too but there is still a long way to go.
I also rang the insurance company about the flooring. They have put me in touch with a company who deal with it. Hopefully it should be sorted out soon.

Thanks to everyone for your support yesterday. :T

Sounds simple now you write it down doesn't it, but I bet that was something of a lightbulb moment, I honestly think we are wired wrong, or shortcircuit when we start hoarding. I was facing a bulging folder full of late relatives' art work, and trying to prop up a stack of empty portfolios - suddenly like a bolt, realised what portfolios are made for ...:T

I think our brains overlook the real purpose of things as we are so busy trying to repurpose them, that's why I am trying to have "the conversation" that goes "Innocent juice bottle...could be used for ...storing orange juice... done that ...now bin!"

Although I must admit I showed a pic of some of late dad's
re-purposing at the OS meet on Saturday and the girls were enchanted by it, so it does have it's charm

BB well done for the picture frames, I have been coralling mine but not yet brave enough to cull them - actually have decided I am enjoying fairly bare walls at the moment
You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow

Yes, everything seems so much easier when you see it written down. I think sometimes writing it down helps.

Had to smile at your comment about the `Innocent Juice Bottle` I could see mine on the worktop when I read it. The only thing I would use it for (other than juice) is as a vase. As I already of plenty of those mine will also go in the recyling.

We found a stash of birthday and Christmas wrapping paper yesterday. Will not need to buy any for a while. Just need to keep myself from all of the pretty rolls in the shops.
Also have enough Christmas cards to last for years. Not to mention the huge box of other greetings cards which currently resides in the wardrobe. Thing this thread may also stop me buying uneccessary things too, which can only be a good thing.
