    Hi everyone,

Just been catching up with the weekend posts, thanks, I can't remember everything but there was some cracking food for thought in there!

The big news from the weekend is that my garden is clear! DH and my dad cleared half of it this time last year. The pile of stuff was as high and wide as the garage and it took months for us to get rid of it. this weekend they did the back and other side which wasn't as woody and thick. But they cut about 4ft off the height and 4ft off the width so we now have a border, more light into the house and an extra 4ft to play with.

They did a few trips to the tip with the bits, my parents took some of the bigger branches away with them to use for things in their garden (my dad makes stuff) so I think the garden is about 1/3 bigger than it was this time last year.

It's a massive thing for me and now I can buy some bulbs and have a nice looking garden - even if the birds don't have as many tangled bushes to hide in!

GQ, if you wash the soil as much as possible off the couch grass and put it in black bin liners tied tightly at the top it will break down into compost...well, a sort of sludge tbh but it's fine to add it to the compost bin then, Takes about six months to a year though. Or you can put it in a barrel with enough water to cover it and make foliar feed in the same way as comfrey tea. I've got one water butt for comfrey and one water butt for nettles+ couch grass now I've got my couch grass under control at the allotment.

I've got an At Home day today..well, till 4pm anyway when I have to start the Monday round of Mum Taxi. Got the housework and laundry to catch up on, the sun is shining so I want to go and pot up all the tulip and daffy bulbs I've lifted from the allotment this year. (I've left more than half, there were lots, trust me.) But I need to do some de-hoading too, I've set myself a target of doing at least some de-hoarding every day, even if it's only a couple of items. I've got all my teaching kit to put away so I'll have another go at the fringes of the craft swamp, I think.

I was thinking about getting some hyacinth bulbs and I am inspired again by this thread so it will be lovely to get some now.

A pair of jeans has gone in for recycling. DH now gets a gleam in his eye that means something is on his hit list to be chucked out.

    in haste

katep - have almost the same amount, or had. I have just got shut of a lot of ood angel delight stuff, the dregs of a pile I got in for little bear (who went from them being his favourite food to the spawn of the devil over night). I also got rid of, well, hard to describe, but all sorts of little bits and odds and scraps that were lingering around, had been lingering around and would continue to linger with no end in sight. So I binned. Two more binsacks out and I've also done some good cleaning with it.

Lightbulb moment - I have given myself permission to say about food, 'that was a mistake, I shouldn't have bought it, I can pick myself up and carry on. Just try to avoid repeating the mistake and make new ones.' Yes, it is a waste, and criminal, that the packets of bits have gone, but them staying there until the next millennium will not make it better.

hugs to all, esp elona. in haste as little bear is at the end of tonsillitis and is trying to camp on the computer.

I have added two more beanbags to the Out pile. What is it about my kids and beanbags? I'm letting them keep one each and that's final!

Have cleared medicine cupboard. Have huge bag to take to chemist to dispose of out of date medicine plus bag full of empty bottles that once held 'simple linctus' who have been languishing with one dose taken out of them and never since seen the light. Also tipped calamine and heartburn stuff down the sink and my sinuses are now sparkling with the fumes!

Must make trip to chemist at earliest opportunity or that bag of out of date medicine will languish forever!

Actually, what with the fumes from that and the fumes from the washing machine washing darling father's clothes (his aftershave ought to be controlled substance) I feel all light headed.

Total of six bags so far. Probably not many more easy bits to do today. Need to decide about the silicone bakeware. Darling uncle bought it for me in skip loads, and I haven't been baking for a bit. Darling uncle likes buying things for people whether they want them or not. But I could do with getting back to baking, and I think little bear might force himself occasionally (not guaranteed). However, do I need that much?

And I have finished sewing two of the cushions to match the waste paper bin and am half way through a third.

I have decided to cat flap my large tv (in exchange for the tiny tv which I cat flapped months ago) as I can then move my sofa to the other wall and it will open up the space even more...space I am in dire need of. So I can look at the inglenook and the log burner which resides there. I got the large tv 5 years ago when I had a large house and it's a bit like sitting too close to the screen in a cinema in this one. I am only taking on the small tv in case the loss of a tv is too much of a shock for me ! I tend to have it on as background noise, but hope to use the radio more.

Have also been decluttering photos on my computer as I'm not home at the moment, in between playing with the cat and talking to the chickens. :D

My brother used to wait till the cat was asleep on one beanbag, then put another on top and lie on it - cue yelling sisters 'Get off the cat!' or 'Muuu-uuummm! He's squashing the cat again!' It's traumatised me ;) to the point that I won't let my children have them (yeah, 'cos I know they'd do the same, poor kitty).

Instead DS1 has cushions. And blankets. Most of the cuddly toys since the great flea spray have not gone back to his room and he even agreed to get rid of 5 finger puppets to the CS. The rest have to stay though. But at least he's agreed they can go in a vacuum bag. I shall chose to see this as progress ;) as at least the space they took up has been reduced.
