However I am sure I can find I useful home for it somewhere. It is really small hexagons, all carefully pieced - I am definitely not getting into that type of work! Perhaps if I contacted the link they would have quilters that knew what to do with the dratted thing.
They will!:rotfl:‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

I have a use for it, I have a place for it, and I really like it (plus it was my grandmothers). Do I take it?
Of course you take it sybil, if only for the reason that it was your grandmothers, you have a place for it and really really like it :rotfl:
That's not hoarding, that's having something useful to put stuff in its proper place.
(Or you could let me have it:D)Normal people worry me.0 -
Sybil, yes take it. It's storage after all.
It sounds perfect.

Definitely going for it, but I am determined that the same weight of stuff has to go out - I have to make this work for me! And thanks. There is a space for it, which is brilliant.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0

I took 3 boxes to CS today. Not had a good day though; I seem to be ok for 2-3 days and then collapse in a heap and do nothing.
LIR, I wish I had a cardboard recycling bin, I always seem to have cardboard but have to get quite a bit to justify going to the recycling tip.
Sybil, I love blanket boxes.
I'n half tempted to have a cat flap put in just to see what happens...:rotfl:0 -

Go for it! I'd love to have one of the blanket boxes my nanna had, my sister has one, my mum has the other. I bought one from a house clearance place instead for £5I find my so useful I wouldn't be without it now

I boxed up about twenty glasses, five plates, three cups and a rolling pin today. They are out the front beside the recycling bin.
If they are still there tomorrow afternoon, they're going to the charity shop.
I've also chucked a load of nearly empty or unsuitable toiletries.
Being around Her and That Place has made me all the more determined to get rid of unnecessary stuff.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Didn't get much done today as we're wading in soggy wallpaper stripped from hall, stairs and landing ... and walked through every other room in the house.
Ceilings being replastered too. Another week and it should be finished and I can hopefully get cracking.
Workmen have left my loo in a mess and I'm not pleased  I know I have hoarding tendencies but I'm also slightly obsessive about cleanliness - in certain areas anyway. I hate the loo being the slightest bit grubby and I actually feel uncomfortable when anyone else uses itI think my OCishness is getting worse as I get older.
Anyway I did manage to go through a HUGE stack of craft magazines and put all but two ready for recycling. I've spent hundreds of pounds on them over the years and can honestly say I've NEVER made one thing out of any of them. I'll ask the library first if they'd be interested in taking them.
I also went through a few boxes of mum's things and a few boxes of my own.
I've also decided to start using the decent china, glasses and cutlery and lots of other things that I've been keeping for when DH retires in 2 years. I've been doing a lot of the latter and I hadn't realised quite how much I was buying and storing for when the time comes. I've taken over one of the garden sheds and am now storing food, toiletries etc. At least I thought I was storing. Maybe I'm hoarding.0 -
MMLS - I believe hoarding is linked to ocd.
Re craft magazines. I got rid of a shedload (actually a shopping trolley full) by taking them along to donate to a church where they have a knit and knatter. Lots bought them for pennies, some I think were kept by the group, but it raised funds, the magazines are going where they are appreciated and they are out of the house. It's just finding ways to make it okay to get rid of stuff.
Charity shops may be able to sell them as well.
JoJo - thank you so much for starting this thread. It has given me a huge kick to get going again.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
I haven't read all the thread but I'll add my experience of my houses filled with stuff.
I've moved about quite a bit in my adult life and had accumulated stuff in the house. And because I moved about I paid to move this stuff about the country from house to house and sometimes things weren't even removed from boxes and put in the spare room.
To put it into context I live on my own - I had lots of crockery ' because it looked nice', lots of magazines/books/scrap book articles type thing related to my hobbies ' because they could be useful one day', teenage diaries, notebooks filled with nonsense, clothes that I would never ever wear again due to a change of career, but they sat in suitcases under the bed. Things lurking in cupboards and drawers and under the stairs that was kept 'just in case'.
I moved from a three bedroomed house to a two bedroomed house and even though I got rid of some of the furniture a lot of the boxed stuff remained.
Fast forward another five years and another move to a smaller house. I was ruthless this time although it did take me a while to part with some things, I started with baby steps. A bag of stuff for the charity shop, a few things for recycling each week. Anything I was still feeling sentimental about I put to one side to have a think about. That took two or three months.
Then I ordered a skip !! And I managed to fill it even though some things disappeared from the skip that I'd put in ( old fish tank / pasting table / bits of wood ?!) I filled it to the brim. Two years on from my mammoth clear out and declutter I don't miss any of the stuff from before.
I now have a bring something in, chuck something out policy and don't buy it unless I really, really need it. Which is a totally different attitude to what I had before. Can't stop the wool stash from growing though !0
