Byatt A friend recommended the same thing earlier today but if I don't get rid of them quickly they're just going to hang around and find their way back upstairs. I will check Eb*y though and see if it's worth it. Thank you0

I cannot consider books 'clutter' but really wish we had some book shealves. (we will in autumn). I am getting two or three of those ilea billy shelves ina couple of weeks which i can put in the dining room for the next few months till the builders have been and gone.0 -

might be worth speaking to your local council about that, we've just had a note to say they are going to give us bags so we can put textiles like that in our recycling bin.Credit Card debt £10247.17 1/1/20200 -

If you don't want to apeear like you think the clothes you are giving are in a fit condition, just clearly mark your bags as rags.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -

Is there a way rag can be recycled?LiR, rag is quite valuable at the moment and some charity shops are able to sell the raggy "unwearable" stuff to add to their cause's funds. Maybe a few minutes on the blower, or dropping in whilst you were passing, could identify a charity which would be glad of them? If you are donating rag-only items to a c.s. or into a donation bin, it's helpful to label them as such, to save the sorters' time.
I have been de-richarding my lottie shed. I have an awful lot of 4 pint plastic milk bottles up there from projects past and need to thin those out but was in a rush today so just grabbed the green plastic lids. Someone at w*rk has somewhere that recycles them for charity, so I take them in. Gave them a wash-up first as they'd got a bit manky. Lots more to do as it is allegedly a 6 x 8 foot shed and there is only just about room for me to stand inside. Am squeamish about pulling stuff out of the corners because of the spiders. But they'll only get bigger as the summer advances into autumn, so I might as well grit my teeth and bear it.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Not much done this weekend. OH has been sorting out some of his clothes - I will get rid of all the excess! Next week will possibly be a clothing week, trying to keep up momentum. It may take several weeks
Just what I do with my documents. I have a Google mail account (don't ask me how it is set upOH set it up for me) and I save documents there. They are there in the ether, and I keep a list of account numbers (not passwords!) for things like the water, gas, electric along with phone numbers and addresses. I keep bank details, again nothing to do with the passwords but addresses and different accounts, and the details of the council tax etc. I have details of people I have magazine subscriptions with, as I give magazine subscriptions as gifts so don't see the packaging, and health plans, and contact details and references for the boiler etc. I just keep the original 'set up' must keep docs and then shred everything else. I don't keep any other bit of official paper 'in case I need the phone number' and if there is a fire I will still have access to account numbers etc. I also keep odd bits of information like the date a locked in period ends etc - I have a 'keep at this price for x months' with utilities and phone, and I have notes about how that was set up there. I am working on having one small folder with all the important stuff in, and all the other stuff stored in cyberspace.
:o:o Actually, I am supposed to shred it all, I have a backlog, but I have a system in theory which means that I need to keep as little as possible in the way of paperwork. I have online banking so don't need to keep paper statements, I have paperless billing for gas and electric and I am working more and more to reduce paper coming in.
This thread is really helping me.
Edited to add - my stained/holey clothes are passed to my lovely next door neighbour who is a mechanic who is always in need for rags to wipe stuff down etc so I pass them on to him. Do you know anyone who would appreciate rags for eg cleaning or stuff? Good luck!Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
I'm pleased about the rag bag post because DH hates even taking holey stuff for recycling, so I think it will reassure him that it is welcome.
Took a travel pouch thing to a relative who goes travelling and she was very pleased with it.
Have a new toiletry bag stashed away for part of a birthday present.
Got rid of two bags of confidential waste, and also a big wooden box that was not really doing much in the bathroom. Bathroom is so uncluttered these days it is great.
Also found 4 lovely prints. Had them for about 15 years and are still in their cellophane wrapping. DH had actually put them for recycling in with some books - I was cross about that but it turns out he hadn't seen them. Anyway, just need to get some picture frames for them and then I know a perfect recipient.
I have said to DH that over the summer we ought to have one half-day a week where we make a real, real effort to get rid of the stuff we keep moving around and not quite turning out. Have to say that I don't think he is fully supportive of this idea.
Cuddly toys are the bane of my life. He wants to keep all of DS' for DD, even though she is given millions of them every bday and Xmas.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. LIR, I'm wondering - are you going to read all of those books again or do you want to look at them sitting in a corner gathering dust and bookworm? And do they bring anything to your life right now, or could it be the memory of enjoying reading them once that appeals to you?I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0
