Abandoned quilting blocks (made with new fabric, I think) can be used by Project Linus.

I am saving that link!
The reason I was considering a museum (local little museums with 'how we used to live' type exhibits) is that the material that is included is mainly pre WW2. However I am sure I can find I useful home for it somewhere. It is really small hexagons, all carefully pieced - I am definitely not getting into that type of work! Perhaps if I contacted the link they would have quilters that knew what to do with the dratted thing.
And that's another thing - I have a large bundle of crochet laced made by my great grandmother. I have no ambition whatsoever to use it, couldn't bin it, no idea if anyone could use it, as it really isn't fashionable. Sort of resent having to keep it, as it just takes up space. Regardless, I've got to find the stuff first. It is behind a mound of other stuff in the junk room. Today is a clothes day.

Sybil I am the same about not finishing things...I have a bag still unpacked from a holiday in May!
I had a load of unpacked, half unpacked bags in the kitchen, not all food items, though I did find a manky apple in one.
Maybe the Greek guy on Hoarders can give us a group rate...:cool:0 -
Various reasons i am not going to get to the glasses today. I have done the understairs cupboard though. Our cardboard wheely bin is going to be full too. At least that gets recycled so i don't feel bad about that one.0

I have just seen this 'hoarders stash hampered fire crew' That poor person must be beside themselves, and the poor firemen who had to face added risk because of the extra 'stuff'. Please everyone take care.
Lostinrates - I think we just have to do what we can when we can. I think you should take credit that you have sorted under the stairs. The way I see it, if I just do five minutes, then I have done more than if I had done nothing. You have cleared a space. Have you a goal for that space? Is it to store something in particular?Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -

To put more junk in?
:rotfl:
The thing is we will hopefull yin the next coule of weeks be having builders in, so i need to empty the utilty room, the kitchen, a junk roomand a room that will be our kitchen. That one only has a bit in it, we should get that amd the junk room done tomorrow i think. The kitchen and utility are worse, and i need to start the utility at least this weekend too.kitchen is the last, obviously. they are also going to be in our spare bedroom turning that into a bathroom, so we have to shift the furniture from there too, but that can be done last i think.
This sort of reshuffle is a pita but a great time to really be brutal about what goes and stays
At the same time as i need to empty those rooms we have this divorce issue happeneing with my parents, and are storing stuff for both, but thankfully mainly in a barn, not the house. For the house we have a sofa and two armchairs coming, and i think, frankly, they are going to have to go in our bedroom till autumn, when everything can move into longer term proper places.0 -
I wish i could move the stuff from under my stairs. Thing is, its stuff that we use but it looks like a bomb site and is very hard to clean. Its the only place in the house that i'd hate anyone to see. I'd take a picture to show you if i was brave enough. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Coming onto this a bit late really, just wanted to offer some support to those that are trying to help friends and relatives through this. I don't suppose they could manage to get through without support, but of course you can't help people that don't want to be helped.
It's certainly a very selfless thing to do, particularly when the person who needs help can't see it yet and is being difficult, to say the least.
The only thing I could think when I saw JoJo's mums pics was 'giant boot sale'. Or yard sale, if you can do it in your area. I know that doesn't help the emotional issues behind the hoarding, but it's one way of getting shot of some stuff in the interim. I don't understand where the money for all of it comes from to be honest.I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

Help - I have just been offered a blanket chest that I really like! For free! And I could use it for putting bedding in!
I have a use for it, I have a place for it, and I really like it (plus it was my grandmothers). Do I take it?Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
