  • Elona - Thinking of you and your DD

De-hoarding on hold now for the next fortnight, we go on a short holiday on Saturday and I have lots of errands/clothes washing/packing and cleaning to do before we go.

This morning I took another 2 parcels of junk to the post office that sold on ebay and I have another, larger item being picked up this evening.
I freecycled half the magazines that I was umming and ahhing about last week. The other half will be recycled now as we haven't had any interest in them at all.

We visited a castle yesterday with DD and only came away with a small finger puppet and a book. Normally I am a sucker for gift shops at tourist attractions :o, so I am quite proud of myself.

We really need to start cutting back as DH has just found out that he is likely to be out of a job by Christmas :(. He is now applying for anything available in his field, but he is unlikely to find a job at his level as it's fairly specialized and those jobs don't come up very often.

Sorry to hear about DH's job, molly. Sometimes similar companies/organisations hear about impending redundancies and approach people, so you may find that the situation works out. Often, one person leaves at the threat of redundancy and is able to get a foot inside the door of another company and then recommend their former colleagues. It may lead to better opportunities, but is always a shock when it happens. I've been made redundant twice.

Molly, sorry about the possible redundancy. I know when I was ex we had a few occasions that happened, and the waiting is the worst. Lots of positive thoughts for the job hunt. :A Enjoy your holiday!

Well, I took the rest of the car boot stuff to the CS's...divided between 2. I did ask for a little plastic tray (used for fruit) back as it's so useful, and the woman said , yes, it IS useful, obviously coveting it.

I also, for my reward found another Jack Reacher book. :D

Oh and some paper bags on a string, which I got for fleabaying when I did it, I donated to the fruit and veg shop that runs as a charity. :T

    WW, sorry about your fall.

Elona, hope you get some news today or tomorrow.
  • Whitewing, scan the letters and put them in a separate file marked with a date in the future (Say 1 year). Forget about it until that date. The issue will have had time to work itself out in your subconsciousand when you go back you will probably know what to do. Afterall storage on a computer or a disk does not take up a lot of space.

LIR look up saddlers on the internet, perhaps somthing will pop up.

DH needs new underwear so trip to the shops comming up, need to gird up not to buy anything other than what is needed. Or be prepared to get rid of something else.

No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thought.

  • I mowed the lawn on Saturday, & threw away cracked flower pots from the shed. I want to make a veg patch in the garden, & widen the narrow border for more plants. Then I can get plants out of pots & into the ground, & reduce my flower pots, thus
    1 - increasing the patio space which is currently occupied by several pots;
2 - reducing the time & water needed to water the garden.
I really don't want to try taking the turf off & digging the garden up though till we've had some rain. Will see what I can take in for the garden at work, already planning for the hydrangea to go there.

Haemorrhagic fever (of which hantavirus is a variant) has been found in Europe/Russia. It's even been mooted that it was behind some historic plague/sickness reports. There have been cases of them being brought into the UK occasionally and records of human to human transmission in South America.

All the more reason to get places cleaned (and therefore easier to deal with rodent populations) before they find a way over here and start being transmissible through the usual vectors, I suppose.

  • Decluttered some clip files, paper folders and other stationery stuff by taking it to work, where it will be used. Lots of bulk gone.

I'd like you all to know that the landing cupboard door can still be closed. Usually, it can only be closed for three days a year - after the annual clear-out and before someone else puts another heap of junk in there. This year, DH and DS have pulled out all the guitar cases, bits of Warhammer and all the other stuff I was wishing they would throw away and no-one has had anything to put in!

Keep up the good work, by the way. I'm enjoying everyone else's decluttering too.
  • :hello:

I've been busy, but I've been keeping up with all the posts - you're all doing so well.

:grouphug: Dodgy hugs elona, it's hard, even if someone is on the mend to keep up with all the extra work and stress that having a loved one in hospital causes - harder still when the doctors don't know what's going on.

 I've been trying to work out who might want 33sq feet of stone effect ceramic floor tiles. They're lovely, fantastic quality but I've only got thirty three 1 foot square floor tiles - it sounds like a lot but it isn't - If I don't get replies from the Intranet forum tomorrow, they're going out with all the stuff in the front room on Wednesday.

I've got rid of a load of stuff from college, some bits and pieces from a trip to Leningrad in 1990 , a load of self help books and cds and some embroidery pattern books.

The embroidery books were, quite frankly, embroidery !!!!!! with the tastefully shot finished works photographed in loving detail with all the aspirational accessories one could hope to wish for in one's own home. :o

But I'll keep the Kafe Fassett though. :o

I've never needed to show anyone my college essays or laboratory coursework - there's no need to keep it now all the print is starting to stick to the inside of the plastic covers and the paper had to be carefully peeled out of the presentation folders and yet more plastic pockets.

I did what you did Patchwork Quilt and brought them to work - I've no need of them and they will get used.

I found an old recorder and some dented penny whistles - they're in the recycling and some sheet music.

I've wrapped the music up and it's going to the local music school - if they can't use it, then I'm sure they know who can. I'll take it to the post office on Wednesday.

I took the books, cds, old clocks and some photo frames to the local BHF which opens on Sundays - and they take rags

I can take a bin bag load of cut up denim and some hessian fabric to them on Wednesday - I was going through a rag rug making phase but didn't realise just how much work goes into cutting all those little strips  - I get bored very easily :o
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

I put 3 holey socks in for recycling yesterday. This was a bit of a miracle for me because normally I would get all the washing up straight, then everything dried and put away, and then I would go through the sock drawer properly. Which would all take time so I may run out of time before the socks get taken out. Now I just took them off the line and straight in, which also works because recycling is being dealt with more regularly, which is partly because the place is less cluttered so it's easier to do tasks like this as you don't have to do a hundred other jobs to reach the recycling goods.

I never thought we were that bad in terms of the amount of stuff we had (too poor to buy much!). I can't get over how much easier life is with a lot of the no-longer-used stuff out of the place.
