I just googled someone that I used to write to as a child, having found letters and cards from him in my stuff for scanning. To find that he is now a convicted !!!!!phile with offences dating back to the time I met him in person through school (only got convicted for them in the last 8 years).
Now this is going to sound really daft but what do I do with the letters? I don't want to keep them in with my scanned stuff. I am having talking therapy at the moment, shall I take them to discuss with the mh nurse, who probably won't even begin to understand why I can't make a decision about throwing it out?
I can't remember a lot about my childhood so the few bits (mainly letters) that belonged to me are held on tightly and only now beginning to be gone through.
Is it possible to take out the information about your childhood from the correspondence and enter it in the form of a journal/book. (just realised Jetty has said something similar) I know it's not quite the same as reading the letters and cards. Or just put them away till you feel able to decide what to do. I have a habit of knee jerk reactions and get rid of stuff from my past which I later regret.
Will keeping the correspondence tarnish your childhood memory when you see/read them.0 -
Whitewing, maybe it would mean something to the person who wrote with you? I do not know what happens, but wonder if people with this sort of conviction receive any counselling or therapy themselves? Copies at least, might help them.
Personally, i would find this knowledge would tarnish memories for me i think, and i would choose to keep the fewer, and less conflicted memories. Funnily enough, childhood stuff i am less sentimental about, so its a harder one for me to 'get'. I wish you luck in resolving this.. If in doubt, leave them and make a date to go back and revisit the deciosion maybe?

So, we got a takeaway tonight and got a sharing starter, which came in a sort of bento box. I want to keep it. (in fact i want to keep them all, and i threw away all my lidless tupperwares and these little plastic boxes all have lids for freezing LOs. But a bento box? Dunno.0

Don't keep the box lostinrates!
I put the breadmaker in the car today prior to taking it to a colleague tomorrow. She's quite excited at having one but can't quite believe it's a gift. All I want to do is get it out of the house!
Unfortunately, however, I went to the local 0xfam with DD and bought back six of our old wine glasses (£2.40) because I didn't realise she needed some more at Uni. Never mind, the rest of it is still in there.0 -
Between last night and this morning I dragged out the contents of the linen cupboard and triaged them into keep, CS and recycle. Some of it was easy, some of it less so. It must be the 19 duvet syndrome again but why do I feel I need more than two sets of bedding per bed? The kids are too old to wet the bed and OH and I are still too young.
I can see the point of keeping three of the KS duvet sets, they're really top quality Egyptian cotton that came from my late SILs house and I couldn't afford to replace them in a month of Sundays tbh. They are plain white too so go with everything and can be bleached back white so I'm keeping them. But the rest I'm trying to be reasonable with, and failing. Do I need more than two sets each for the kids and one nice set for the guest bed? It's not as if we have dozens of guests at a time and teenagers seem to prefer sleeping bags. (I know the answer to this question, yup.) CS!
And there seem to be a lot of shower curtains. I've got two current sets (it needs two curtains to go round our long bath) that go with the current decor and several more pairs that don't. Shower curtains are expensive though and they may be useful, argh......yes, I've put all the extra sets in the CS pile.
Rag rugs, which is what I use as bathmats and most of which are ratty. But useful for traction for getting cars out of snowdrifts, which is why we have two for the boot of each car already. I should just keep two of the best for the bathroom, yes? And chuck the rest? Yes, I know, textile recycling.
Curtains. (Don't know why they're in the linen cupboard, no.) All in CS pile now.
Bedspreads...never use them, got four including the one I had on my bed as a child. So kept that one, CS the rest.
Cushion covers, not in any current colours. CS.
The kids' baby blankets. Grotty so for textile recycling.
Two ratty hot water bottles. (No trouble with binning these!)
And I found two brand new quilted mattress protectors that I'd forgotten about. I'd been thinking about buying some for the winter as an extra layer of padding for the kids' beds so that was a nice surprise. Now I can throw out the old duvets ( :rotfl: )that are on the beds atm!
Good morning's work actually. Will go to the dump on the way to the podiatrist.Val.0 -
I had to walk DD to nursery this morning as DH has got the car. Tripped over on the way back and have a graze the size of a small saucer on my knee. Stings a little but not too much.
Have put washing on the line and one in the machine.
Am pleased with the scanning I did last night. DH thinks the scanning is a waste of time and I should just chuck it all but I am sure the whole world will cave in if I di that, lol.
I have chucked a bottle of half-used hand cream that has sat unused by the kitchen sink since I did the bathroom cull.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. The thing with scanning is you know you have all the stuff then if at some point in the future you realise you've not looked at the stuff and you don't think the world will end if you get rid of it then you can and it'll take less than a minute to do! Win win.0

So another week where my bin is full to the brim. It never happens, we must be chucking more and more. I am not happy about the waste, but its rubbish whether in my house or at the tip.
Sometime ago a friend lent me a sadsle i wanted to try. Its worth a bit of money and she wants to sell it and is prepared to let me have it for less than it is worth. I really want to buy it though i have no horse that fits it. I also have another saddle that is worthless now a rat has chewed it, but was one of my favourties. I have thought about trying to find a decent saddler to patch it up, but realistically it will never be what it was.
I was wondering if i could find a trainee saddler who epwants something to work on as a practise thing? It was NOT a cheap saddle, and to simply chuck it...well, i cannot. If the worst comes to the worst i shall use it as a saddle to get you g horses used to having saddles put on and off, but its a shame.0 -
Worth getting some quotes lir for the damaged saddle.
How likely are you to get a horse that fits your friend's saddle? I would say, don't buy it.

Well, i would get quotes for my saddle. Not sure where to take it really. The big saddlers locally is the biggest for a couple of counties, and thus very pricey. I don't know any really good independant saddlers for repairs locally.
Regarding friends saddle, we are looking at horses right now. It might also make a good saddle for dh (he is shorter than the friend who is selling it, so despite being a bloke it might fit him) so two horses and people to try it with. I never was too fussy when younger, but now, with a broken body and damaged balance i need the saddles to fit me as well as the horses if i am ever to climb back on. Which is the plan atm.:o0
