Morning guys, woke up after another dream, but in a totally new house/flat/small dwelling with ex (of course, can't get rid of him:eek:), but I seemed happyish, but he had got a new car and a new something else and then we were talking about extending to fit everything in...finally, I couldn't drive the car, and the people who sold it to him said they were appalled that I couldn't drive it safely and they were very angry. I said I had not taken it out just tried it at home...but they wouldn't listen.

Anyway, woke up and thought, the casserole dishes have to go! :rotfl:

Lovely day here again, need to declutter garden and sort out plants for planting. :D

Byatt - hopefully one day you'll get rid of whatever it is you need to that gets the ex out of your dreams/nightmares!
  • How much of the 'stuff' is associated with your ex, Byatt?

Because if your answer is 'everything', perhaps it would worth considering having it removed professionally in one go?

It strikes me that your ex in your dreams is bringing things that are of no use to you - this car, for example, is neither use nor ornament, the houses haven't solved the problems either.

Could your subconscious be telling you, now that you are looking at things as they really are, that there is no benefit to you in holding onto this stuff/these emotions?

Ordered some new clothes last night, as I'm not winning with my 'lose weight' mission and really needed to get a few things that weren't too tight. After all, clothes which are too small look even worse, right? But I did get cashback and a new customer discount..... will be shipping some more old clothes out to make room for the shiny new ones :)

Greenbee, yes, I truly hope that happens. I do resent him popping up in my dreams!

Jo-Jo, nothing I have directly relates to ex, I got rid of so much stuff, nearly everything, even things I had loved. I haven't dealt with the issues around him though as basically I was just trying to survive. There's certainly no benefit on holding onto the emotions, you are right, and I think the decluttering has more to do with acknowledging that as the actual stuff is not important to me. Not intrinsically anyway. Your post has helped me visualise my ex giving me things that are of no value/use, and of course that was his love, which had no value at all. :(

Thanks both of you for your insight again. Very helpful. :)

Ok, it's not just clothes that's my problem! I have too many toiletries (boots sale) pens (I have a thing for them) and food (I just re stock and re stock without actually using half of what we have)

Not tackled anything today bar folding some of two eldest dds tops away (from their floor) and sorting youngests starting gschool clothes into an unaccessible cupboard in her room (I didn't tidy what made it inaccessible I just movedthestuff to the side)

I am sorting out toiletries now (just stopped for a break)

I am haviing new vinyl laid in the bathroom tomorrow so have bene working since 9am to declutter the bathroom and steam clean everything- I do have some quite nasty scalds (i am too impatient to wait for steamer to cool down before refilling it).

I have tons of hair stuff for curly frizzy hair, goodness knows how long it's been there but I've long wavy hair half way down to my sit upon so I can see no real use in keeping stuff for curls- but some of it is hardly used and I am struggling to actually drop it into the dustbin bag- maybe it is worth something? It must go though along with all the dried up pots of stuff with use by dates that pre date 2000.

Room looks lovely now- but all the toiletries are sitting in crates in the hallway so I must get on.

Since finding this thread last week I have been quite inspired, I just need to lose the idea that stuff might be worth something and therefore can't be thrown away.

Think of the bacteria that could have grown in them in all that time. If they've been opened and/or the using date has passed, they're not only nasty, but a hazard.

In fact, here's a link for checking such things....

I love cosmetics and perfumes and potions. I really do. But thinning/purging the collection has meant I have space and time to get stuff I actually love and use, rather than struggling with things that weren't quite right.

Having a clean bathroom makes it a far more luxurious, decadent sensation to be in there, instead of the matter of fact get the dirt off and hope you are cleaner on the way out than on the way in it can become.

Well done for sorting the bathroom soolin even if it was done through necessity rather than a want to tackle it?

    Eugh jojo. The 'lipstick'

I am trying to weed through my toiletries I have a ban on buying any new ones I dont NEED (mainly only shaving gel atm)

I have done all the kids vests (ironing) and chucked (for cash for clothes) their old and raggier ones. I DO have to replace some of them with fresh white ones though for new school term but will try to get hem only 5 or 6 each (dependant on pack sizes)

Soolin - thank you for asking after me - I won't be able to get to the convention but I will be admiring Mr Pratchett from afar. Are you going?

Byatt - you are going on a real journey here. Sending lots of positive thoughts.

It's been heck on roller skates today. Little bear was at death's door (apparently) yesterday and missed the last day of school. Today he is bouncing around on supercharge. No declutter just at the moment.

However I want to share a moment of triumph from Sunday. It was a really tough call - but I did it. We have subscribed to Love Film on line and due to OH hitting some amazing targets at work and getting a fancy tv as a reward, we can get the internet through the tv, so theoretically can get Love Film on demand through the tv. OH spent the weekend swearing about it and trying to get it all set up. He bought some cables, and one is an audio type cable, and is not needed for the eventual solution (which I didn't understand :o).

So he was there with the audio type cable, and I asked how much it cost, it was £4. We have no foreseeable use for it. I told him to put it in the bin there and then. And after some internal struggles, he did.

I can think of lots of richarding about this - it could have gone to a charity shop, we could have kept it in case it was useful, we could have ebayed it... But realistically it would have just stopped there and festered in a drawer until we weren't sure what it was for. So it is out. But actually doing it was a scary moment.
