  • I'm feeling a bit smug again...

Had a call this morning inviting me to stay at a friend's in the Weald.

So, all I had to do was put the cats' crunchies for tonight and tomorrow morning down, empty the kitchen bin and I was out the door.

Ok, so when I come back tomorrow evening, I have to make my bed, but it took minutes to get ready and go because I could find everything easily. The longest part was a) getting the braces on my ankles and b) wrangling the cat back in from the garden.

I keep planning a small, raised pond for my patio. I love fish and aquatic life/plants, but until the shed collapses from old age, I don't have room for a proper one. Then it'll be a natural looking type.

    What was your pond like?
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

I have thrown out 2 tins (theyll be useful for putting *stuff* in one day.........) 3 cardboard boxes *ditto* , and 3 "posh" carrier bags (MAC, La Senza and Bumble and Bumble) not sure why the heck I was keeping them anyhoo
Do you ever go to summer fetes? The charity stalls there would probably be very glad to see you turn up with a stack of these "posh" carriers, for supporter's purchases, and if it is somewhere you are heading for anyway...

In fact many charities also welcome salable donations on the day, as they haven't had to store or transport them

Well done with your progress - I am home earlier than expected so need to spend the "extra" time decluttering rather than surfing...

    Howdie folks ,
Only read back a few pages as it takes ages on a flippin phone.

GQ.....puke.....smashing up snails and cutting up slugs .....:rotfl:
I haven't seen the giant spotty slugs since moving from the midlands to the north....thankfully , vile huge things , they were about 6 inches long !

You lot could set up a new sporting challenge.....snail-slinging.

Actually I moved a lot as a young kid as my dad changed jobs all the time climbing the corporate ladder..but don't dream of houses , however could be a factor in my hording tendancies.

A friend of mine would hoard bills etc and never get round to paying them , I sorted them out for her aand made her pay some and now she does it herself, and feels so much 'lighter' for not having that dragging her down.

Gotta say I agree with blossom about putting quilt under bottom sheet , I've done this for years , and also have loads of quilts , but not going to get rid of them as they always come in handy sometime. When we have had the 2 last terrible snowy winters I keep on in the car in case I get stuck.

Well I am not de-richarding at the moment , but since I did the bedroom weeks ago I have kept on top of it , so have tidied bedroom today (not hoovered yet)
Byatt......plastic insides of chocolate boxes........that made me laugh , what do you use them for ?

I still wish my friend would come on here........but she won't face/or admit to the issue.

    Well done all :j.

Blossom , hope things are good with you. :).

    Will pop back soon.

Still no fags ! ( Nothing to do with the thread I just thhought if I post it it will make me stick to it more maybe)
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

Anyone else got a stash of screws? I've got loads of them and I secretly think that if the world goes into melt down, then screws will be a very valuable resource when they are no longer easily available. :o:D
I need to downsize my screw collection.

3 more small items taken via freecycle this week. Although taking up small space, it all counts and they were not needed or used by me and now they are getting used.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Today I'm going to get rid of......

Four pairs of shoes - either they never fitted right, felt uncomfortable after a while or they were 'aspirational' trainers for the long walks I was going to go on (Skecher 'rocker bottom' type) or for the fitness classes I was going to do (white pair of flat bottom trainers useless for outdoors).

More work tops that never felt right and required regular adjustments while out and about.

They can go in the big Cancer Reasearch collection box in my local supermarket when I pop down there later.

Film cameras. Once upon a time, I bought a £199.99 Canon Sureshot with a zoom lens. Over the years, it has stood me in good stead, travelled with me on holidays and I've taken loads of pictures.

Now? It's cost me more in batteries than I've actually paid for it, it takes 36 pictures maximum and is so big and bulky that it looks like a modern day video camera. I never take it out of the drawer and the films I bought for it are out of date already. The maximum I'll get for it secondhand is about £20. It can go in the box of stuff for the car booting colleague who's raising money for BHF. Good luck to her.

I've got quilts stored under my bed which I'm going to have to go through at some stage - probably tomorrow.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

Calico, I never actually use the plastic from chocolate boxes, for anything, well once tried ice cubes in what I hoped would be pretty shapes, but they just looked like a load of wonky ice cubes!

My DD won a chicken dinner in a raffle today, which includes a chicken :p and veg, but I was more excited about the plastic tray it came in thinking of all the ways it could be useful! :o

Thank you for mentioning about eiderdowns and vintage quilts. My aunt has a couple so she will try to sell them on now.

My tactic at the moment is to assign everything in the house a zero monetary value. That way anything that we get for anything is a bonus and anything that has gone out on commission will just get donated to charity if it doesn't sell. I know it means some things will go stupidly cheap, but some will go for slightly more than we may have expected.

I think aunty is now suffering from wanting to get value from her goods not just get them out of the house. So she wants to see how the auction goes before sending more. I think she is making a mistake. She wouldn't faff around on ebay herself nor would she advertise in papers and let people come to the house so I think she will be out of alternatives.

DH and I have decided that we are stuck in a rut. So we have made a mini lifestyle plan for the school holidays to make sure we get to go out for the day sometimes, we spend time together chilling out and we also tackle some one-off chores. We still have to work too but need some fun time. Haven't had much of a break at all this year yet.

Went out for a long walk today with DS and DD. Am shattered but pleased. I have hardly left the house in the last few weeks except when I have actually had to but am getting my mojo back.

:) I greet you, thou sister under the skin. I have several jam jars with screws in, on a shelf in my allotment shed. I also have galv flatheaded tacks (for when I need to re-do the shed's roofing felt) and galv staples for the fencing. I have two lots of staples because I couldn't find the first lot and had to re-buy. :o They are all tidy now and accessible on the shelf. The spiders still haven't handed over the blue-handled scissors.........

BTW, a good tip for anyone with an apex-roofed shelf; you can put a shelf above the door and keep stuff out of your way. Back when we used to have warm weather in summer, I'd keep tiny bottles of el-cheapo supermarket beer on mine. This year, hot chocolate would have been more appropriate.

And yes, come the revolution, people will be beating a path to our doors when they need some misc hardware. Failing that, should go well at a carboot or Freegle/Freecycle?

I ended up with double quantity of wood screws when I had decking delivered, so bagged them up in packs of 20 for for 25p, with size marked on = not one pack sold

whitewing - zero value sounds good - we did a bootsale where we sold everything for 50p - of course many items were worth more (but we may not have got it) and lots of things that we would have asked 20p or 25p for actually sold for 50p

In the early days of getting the hoard down, we accepted that we would throw some good stuff out along with the bad but it would be the price we'd pay for "freedom"

;) Take TWO stapleguns into the shower...........? That's a wee bit bonkers but my lovely Mum has done many a similar thing. She has 3 knitting machines which she has been going to get back into use. She was saying that whilst I was still at uni and I'm bearing down on the big Five-Oh and I was a standard variety immature student........one is behind the sofa and gawd knows where the others are and which accessories belong to which. When the SHTF, she will be equipped to start a small manufactory.

Incidentally, shame she didn't see you selling those woodscrews at that price as she'd've bought the lot and been happy as a clam. She has her own personal workshop shed (10 x 12 foot) with some big girl's toys like a lathe, a band saw and my 60th birthday present to her - a pillar drill. Only you can't get at any of it because it is so full of carp, inc all the containers like biscuit tins and marg tubs which might come in useful. I think we can imagine the rest...............:rotfl:Hence my ability to recognise a sash cramp when it drops on my foot and to identify strange pieces of hardware. Whatever you want, just ask; we probably have it or can get it for you wholesale.

:D Not a conventional Mum but I wouldn't have it any other way!
