Hi Becca, quick question if i may. I have just taken out a policy for payd but am in two minds whether to cancel or not now due to an article in the guardian. It said that information has been passed from n/u to the police regarding drivers speeding being detected by the tracking device. Do you know if this is true? Cheers.
  • Hi sike, i'm trying to find an answer for you on this one as I don't know myself. Will be back in touch asap.

    thank you.
  • The police or a court of law can request any data we may store. This is covered under Section 29 of the Data Protection Act 1998.

We do not monitor the speed of any vehicle insured on "Pay As You Drive"™ insurance. Nor will speed data be used to calculate premiums. "Pay As You Drive"™ insurance data is strictly private. The only way that anyone can access journey data is if the police request data as part of a criminal investigation. Under current law we must comply.

    I hope this helps?

    I've just joined,
not that it is any cheaper than my current policy for my main car ( cancelling old policy mid term).. but wanting to use a second car, and works out cheaper with the mileage spread over 2 cars with 2 PAYD policies than 2 normal policies ( econd acr much cheaper)

Appears no free for device/ fitting

Total est £155.65 ( of which £80.41 is base)

Monthly £10.73 ( based on est miles)
    advance £26.89
Beccus Am I right in thinking
that therefore my monthly on going base fee will be £4.46pm
( ie base £80 less advance payment , divided by 12)

    This thread is great

My insurance costs me £54pm and I barely use the car I only keep it because we go camping in the summer months and even then the furthest we go is about 50 miles. The kids school and my job is less than 10 min walk so we generally do, except in torrential rain hehe

I have not heard of this payd before but I think I will have a look into it.

Do any other companies offer this policy??

Well I have just done a full year with PAYD and it is a benefit to me.

My bills per month have been between £12 and £17 per month.

Norwich Union contacted me and asked did I want to renew. The new estimated price is between £20 and £25 per month if my useage stays the same. This is because they add the base rate on.

Just had my first bill on my renewal and it was £21.

So all in all say £21 x 12 months = £252 per year, although NU estimated £265.

Cheapest Insurance I could get was £390.

    Quote on 4000 miles a year for a 40 year old FNC's bonus BMW530I 2002.

Just need this rip off Government to do something about incentives to Road Tax now coz they are screwing me, or trying to, into getting a smart car.

What ticks me off us that they are increasing the tax on my car for leaving it on the drive. 4000 is hardly polluting compared to a 1.8L engine doing 20,000 a year, but pays less tax.

    It's all a con !
