you're not the cause of global warming? You mean you don't heat your house, travel, or use manufactured products - ie you use no energy at all?

It is an inconvenient thought that doing these things adds to CO2 and this could be warming up the planet - but wishing inconvenient facts away doesn't usually work. I'm going to die one day however much I might deny the inevitability of it to myself.

I admit some of the scenarios outlined for global warming seem far-fetched. But not being a climate scientist myself I find it difficult to argue coherently against them.

Anyway, besides the global warming argument there are others against using your car if you don't need to

    - other kinds of pollution
    - congestion (or is congestion only caused by OTHER drivers)
    - accidents. even a perfect driver can have them - and let's face it, not many of us ARE perfect drivers
    - the general stress and road rage associated with driving in rush hours, finding a parking space, avoiding hooligan or idiot drivers, etc

Decided to cut my annual mileage after 2 my-fault "prangs" in a year after 12 years of no claims. This type of insurance would be perfect for me - if it's what it claims to be!

ha ha yeah lets get back to the point...the cynic in you is coming out...like me too, I don't like it either. I wouldn't use it even if i did have a car!
  • Anyone signed up for this yet? I think I could save money but, having read that they fit an aerial, microphone and emergency button, I wondered how obtrusive these were and if they can be removed without any marks, etc. in the car.

    Hi,
I've had it fitted and the aerial is stuck to the front windscreen and is hidden behind the rear view mirror, the microphone/speaker is fitted to the 'A' pillar and is quite small (1" ish) and the emergency button is fitted on the plastic moulding down by the footwell. This is on a Smart Roadster as the chap fitting it said that each car was different. The brochure that comes with the installation suggests that if you swap cars in the future but wish to stay with this insurance, that the kit is left in the old vehicle and you get a fresh installation in your new car (but at £50 a go, they would, wouldn't they!) Still in my first month so am yet to receive a bill so cannot comment on whether or not it is any cheaper.
  • Two things :-

    1) This was a thread about "Pay as you Go" insurance.

    2) But thanks for getting onto the global warming issue.

The biggest part of the climate change happened before the 1940's with a slight increase between 1940 and 1960. I am no expert on this and do not disagree that Co2 probably does play a part in affecting earth but I don't believe it is the main cause. Industry plays more of apart in this than the motorist.

Hundreds of scientists are at odds on this subject. The dinosaurs were not wiped out by global warming. The ice age had nothing to do with global warming either.

Earth is going to do what nature intends for it to do and that is evolve. I think we all have more to worry about with terrorism and wars, blowing each other up rather that Co2 emissions. However, a good citizen that I am I will play my part in reducing energy by leaving my car on the drive, using public transport and using energy saving light bulbs and all the rest of this baloney etc, etc.

For those that do believe in Global warming 100% and will not take "Bull****" for an answer please keep an open mind. This is another way of Governments taxing the people. If they were so keen on getting people off the road onto public transport then they would give the motorist (the new cash cow) incentives to leave the car on the drive, ie, discounts on road tax. Instead they increase it. Nor will they increase the amounts of carriages on our trains because that costs money too.

Sorry to be cynical but Global warming is just like religion.... a good argumentative debate. :T

Just to let those interested know, I have now received my first bill from Norwich Union PAYD. I know I have driven more miles this month than I would normally, but even taking this into account, my monthly insurance cost is still nearly £40 cheaper than it was via standard insurance.
Just to quote some figures, I am a 36 year old female, with full no claims, the car is an 05 plate Smart Roadster Coupe and my post code is dreadful for insurance! I don't drive to work, (I walk, not for global warming issues, you understand, it's just too close to drive) and I only tend to use the car for short trips for shopping, friends and family. My previous insurers quoted me £65 a month and under PAYD, it is £26! As you can guess, I am more than happy with this price.
I hope this helps if you were thinking of it.

Thanks for the info Puttytat I am going to go for this as my renewal came today and its gone up 40% - since last renewal I gained 3 speeding points but to go up that much is just unjustified IMHO.
Initial enquiries to NU reveal my basic monthly cost would be £12.86 + mileage.

Yes, I signed up for this a couple of months ago. The microphone is attached to the door pillar ( you can't see it), the speaker is hidden in the glove box,and the aerial is attached to the front windscreen behing the rear view miror. My insurance costs have gone down rapidly since I started it and I have continued with the satellite navigation ( audio, not visula) and Safe Speed service. I highly recommend it. I do about 5000 miles per year.
