    Did you miss something?

    Its called recorded signed for

    And

They generally dont get anyone to sign!?

That's lazy posties that don't get anyone to sign. I'm sure you will find plenty who do. I certainly did before my retirement.

However, I now have one of those posties you mention as my postie, and it's not pleasant.

As Soolin said, if you don't get a signature, claim the money back from RM. They aren't providing the service as advertised.

BTW Recorded Delivery has was never (as long as I worked there) scanned into the delivery office. Registered mail (old name I believe) Special Delivery and tracked items are scanned at delivery office.

Recorded is just that, a signature to prove delivery. If you don't get it, claim it back.

Where it comes into its own is sending stuff to ebayers whose population contains some of the most miserable petty crooks you can imagine. When I have sent stuff by regular mail, I always got whiners that the mail never arrived and paypal would automatically refund them my money. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't arrive, but it seemed a VERY high proportion.

Then I started sending everything signed for, and lo and behold, no 'never delivered' whiners. I know the post goes in the general mailstream, so the same proportion actually get delivered, but no longer get 'customers' ordering with no intention to pay just to do a 'never delivered' clawback.

I even make a point of it on ebay posts now - my P&P costs more because every item is sent signed for - and have had no idiots since. It does have a place.

But yes, of course, if you want a tracked service then use a tracked service like SD, and pay the price.

I am glad I don't use the same eBay you do. I send approx 120 parcels a month, all standard usually 2 nd class mail and have about 1 INR every 6 months.

Still, I do love my competitors charging 95 p more per item as it really increases my sales no end. My sales are cheap, fast and assuming they do get a positie who needs a signature they don't have to go to the sorting office to get their mail if they aren't in. I win all ways and think of all those 95ps I keep instead of giving it to Royal Mail.

    thanks

didnt realise they'd stopped the 'at local depot' and 'out for delivery' messages.

it still needs a case bringing against Royal Mail though, people aint getting what they paid for and dont even think they realise.

    they never started them

Recorded is not a tracked service, so all they say it will do is obtain a signatur eon arrival, anything else is a bonus.

Incorrect, Recorded Signed For is a tracked service.

One has to buy it over the counter, where the letter is recorded, then it is delivered requiring a signature for proof of delivery, yet another recordable aspect of the service.

However, it is not a fully tracked service unlike Special Delivery.

Nonetheless, Recorded Signed For tracks a letter, at point A and point B (but not inbetween), which is more than what 1st or 2nd class mail gets.

I was told long ago Recorded Delivery only shows it has arrived and been signed for. In between if lost then nothing can be done.

A friend runs a shopping site and uses a Tracked Service, anytime I have bought I could followed exactly where the package was and knew the day it was due.

Last week I had a Recorded Delivery not arrive, contacted the shop and they gave me the number which I used on the Royal Mail site. Said they had tried to delivery on the 2nd and card left. Er, no it wasn't. No card. I had to rearrange delivery. Now that is the first time I never had a card, no sure if the van man put it in the wrong address or no card was left?
