  • I can confirm sending a private message requesting account closure works, having done it a couple of times with previous Esavers. It's usually done, with a confirmation reply to your inbox, in 2 or 3 days.

The account is added and appears in my list of accounts. It just doesn't appear in the "Quick Transfer" drop down list.

EDIT: Scrap that... looks like a log out and log back in, and it's there now :)

Only problem its a bit of a faff to close the zero balance account as I did recently with an Iss 3 eSaver. You can't just close it online - you have to call them.

Yes, it would be easier to do it online but it's still very simple and free to do it on the phone.

I requested closure of my E-saver 4 (along with a preferred account) on the phone. Again very simple and a confirmation of this request along with a reference received.

Hmmm, once logged in to my ancient dormant ex-Abbey account I don't seem to have the option to apply online. Have sent a secure message to see if they can advise, I guess they'll probably suggest filling in the form as if a non-customer.

    Are you using Firefox?

It didn't work for me with Firefox - I had an "Apply online" box to the right of the banking home screen once logged in but nothing to apply for.

Tried Internet Explorer and the box had contents and allowed me to apply:T

for those closing the old esaver issue after openinging the new one just be aware ive had a nightmare trying to get a statement/certificate of interest for tax on an esaver that i closed during the last tax year.
have contacted santander 5 times and still waiting for the right thing to be sent through!
If you need tax statements then be aware of this.

If i open the new one im going to keep the old one open with the zero balance into the next tax year and then i'll close it then!

Thanks, I was actually using Chrome, which seems to suffer from the same problem as Firefox. As you suggest, the options do appear in IE. Having seen that they require employment, salary details etc. though I've decided not to pursue the application.

Forgot to mention. As always before closing an account, print off a statement in case you can't see it after closure. (for checking interest due, filling in tax form etc)

No problems using Chrome when I signed up.
