I only just setup the Issue 4 about 3 months ago, which was new at the time. So I was surprised to see a new issue so soon after issue 4. But I guess like you say Santander are running scared, thinking everybody is moving their money. So I just setup Issue 5 now, hopefully will do the transfer from Issue 4 in th next few days.

I see no reason to wait.
You can transfer the full balance online (excluding interest which is paid in full when they close the account) and start earning a better interest rate as soon as you have opened the account.

As a current E-Saver Issue 4 account holder it took me 86 seconds to open the new E-Saver 5 account, rename it, place it where I want it in my accounts order and transfer funds from one to another. It just couldn't be simpler.

I know Santander has had more than it's fair share of negative press, I myself have fallen foul of them a few years ago and was compensated for my troubles, but for the past couple of years I've held 3 x E-savers, 3 x preferred accounts (used their switching service),2 x ISA and a 123 account all without any problems. Maybe, just maybe, they are getting better.............................

Thanks for all the replies. I opened a new account so fingers crossed I get the new interest rate.

I'd be surprised if Santander are running scared. To me it seems more likely that they simply had no-one applying for the issue 5 after it was no longer the top paying account.

More likely they had a big outflow a couple of weeks ago when they were downgraded.

Now they want that money back!

I'm impressed, whole exercise took seconds and surplus funds now in issue 5 e saver whilst issue 4 e saver showing nil balance.

I am not having such a good experience. I am an existing customer and I am trying to apply after logging in to online banking but after the form demands my employment details (which I would prefer not to give out just to open a savings account), I get a message saying:

You cannot continue with this application online. If you wish to make a new application by phone please call us on 0800 169 7414 (lines are open from 8am -9pm Mon-Fri, 8am -4pm, Sat.).

Only problem its a bit of a faff to close the zero balance account as I did recently with an Iss 3 eSaver. You can't just close it online - you have to call them.
